Just driving down lakeshore in etobicoke and had a suv squeal his tires to a stop at a red as he didn't see me stopped. I politely turn around and tell him to f...off and proceed to the next red light. And BAM he gets hit by another in attentive idiot as I'm standing in front of him! Scared the **** out of me but turns out he was a decent guy so I did feel somewhat sorry for him. Thankfully it wasn't major but I'm sure somebody's day got ruined...oh ya the other driver was on the phone!

somebody rear ended me, and yes he was on the phone. but no damage so i told him to leave i had to go somewhere and was getting late so yeah.

this morning on my way home from work I watched someone in a SUV make a left turn out of a plaza and drive directly into the side of a car stopped at a red light waiting to make a turn.. literally just smashed right into him like he wasn't even there. Couldn't believe it.

Same thing happened to me on the bike. "I didn't see you" doesn't make a good excuse.

At lights its good to check mirrors but also to leave the bike in first gear just in case you need to move quickly to the side. And don't worry about stressing the clutch springs (urban myth), they are meant to last and likely the life of the bike.

And anyway nothing on the bike is sacred, if it means my life, then the bike is expendable.

Someone rear-ended me doing 80kmph while I was parked a couple years back. Luckily I saw them in the rear mirror and braced myself, bent the steering wheel 90 degrees holding on to it. Guy was completely sober. Wtf kind of moron does that? Humanity can be so disappointing. Since then I always check behind me at stops.

Wait until you rear end somebody. Then you can shoot yourself! Yeehaaa!

i will never do it because i open my eyes when i drive. and i was rear ended once. it sucked. even though i was fine. it was still annoying. i would never wanna do that to someone else.

and your post is a little dumb. it's like you say "rapists should get shot, there's no excuse for it" then some idiot tells you "wait until you rape somebody, then you can shot yourself YEEhaaa."

I've started to flash my brake lights a lot more recently, including when I'm stopped at a light and see a car coming up behind. I dunno how attention-grabbing it is, but it can't hurt

I actually stop to the left or right of the lanes and check the mirrors close to the side of the cars will allow for a quick escape between the cars if the car behind me does not see me in time. Just a tip.

I won't relax until a vehicle behind comes to a complete stop..

At lights many cars approach fast from behind you but do brake and stop, so what are you going to do? accelerate at every light because it appears as most cars are going to rear end you? And accelerate where? right into an intersection/oncoming traffic or slam into a car infront of you?

It's better to get rear ended by a car from behind than keep your bike in gear and accelerate into the busy intersection and certain death because you "thought" the car behind might not stop.

**** Happens. Sometimes the **** happens to you and sometimes you're the ****. Not always under your control.

Oh well, I didn't see you. Your a parapalegic now or even worse...dead but it's ok cause **** happens!

That is a crappy way to look at things and if yes you and everyone else payed more attention when they were driving/riding/walking or what ever you do in public, **** wouldn't happen! The only **** happens moments we would have to worry about is natural disasters, health failures and/or mechanical failures.

Did you get rear-ended?
Did the SUV stop in time to prevent a collision? Or did he really not see you and rear-end you? Hope you're OK.
