trying to help a body who has a problem with his transmission not shifting smoothly, he just picked the bike up and did not know about it. he says that sometimes the gear indicator also jumps up and down a gear... and finds is difficult to shift to first gear.

so i want to send him to a good shop, i dont trust the dealerships cause i dont think ther suzuki dealerships mechanics are that too familur with bikes.

can you recommand a good shop that has good skill with transmissions? and dont rip you off.

trans work @ shop will be pricy.

But I believe they use a cartage style trans....so it should slip off easily...

All of the K5/6 GSXR1000 have gear indicators that jump up and down a gear. It's a common fault and there is no known fix.
Check out gixxer.com, and you'll see hundreds of th ebikes suffer from it. Do you really need to see a gear indicator to know when you need to shift anyways?

that was the synopsis he gave me and the main issue is that his having difficulty putting the bike in first gear... no gear indicator is only useful for power wheelies....
 
I had a K5 for 3 yrs, and I found when the engine was hot ( slow riding in traffic etc), it was tough to go from 2nd to 1st if the bike was stopped. I would roll it fwd while applying pressure to shifter and it'd slip right into 1st....I just learned to do my shifting before the bike was at a dead stop.....eg: shift while at walking pace, when coming to a stop.
I also found that feathering the clutch a little while shifting into 1st would help as well. I wasn't the orig owner, and it was like this the whole time I owned it, but it never became bothersome, so I just rode it. Note- I do less than 1% of my riding in the city.

All bikes wont shift at a stop. The wheels need to be moving for the gears to mesh together. Some bikes, its more pronounced than others and its literally impossible to change gears at a stop without feathering the clutch or rolling the bike back and forth. Could also be a clutch adjustment issue, if the clutch is dragging it will be harder to shift gears.
 
after riding his bike figured what the issue is, looks like his rearset shift shaft does not bounce back into position after shifting gear. maybe a faulty shim on rear sets. now i have to fix it for him for free... i hate having friends that i cant charge.... lol
