PP has been the most solid con through all of this mess. Maybe he'll throw his hat back in and kick JT in the nuts next year. As an added bonus, he is obviously rock solid en francais. If Douggie tried to run, he would not have a chance in many ridings with his marginal french.

I assume you mean Pierre Poilievre (PP) but I may be wrong, the problem with too many MPs regardless of party is all they know is the trough, little to no experience outside of the halls. He was elected as an MP at 25 and has been at the trough ever since, even before that he was a party insider.

Ironically, he advocated for two term limits early on.

Having someone with no political experience at the helm has also proven to be bad in some cases, but if all they know is how to be a pig at the trough, that is just as bad if not worse as they need to stay at the trough as that is all they can do.

I don't disagree at all. I am just looking at the possible choices and seeing who I currently think is the least bad. IMO, if the cons pick one of the people currently in the race, they are handing a victory to JT (again).

That seems to be the way we get stuck with bad leaders and bad governments. "Everybody does it.", "I'm bad, but the other person is worse.", "They're all fascist anti-intellectual homophobic bigots, but not us."

Poilievre isn't going to run, he's put his family first for now.
I'd like to see someone like Rempel run, she seems to be on the ball, and is media savvy. Not sure about her french, but someone from the west, after two terms of a Quebecois, would be a good change.

What we need is someone who is a outsider not part of this club at all, who will come in a break up this status quo. Basically they are all sleezy sales people and we just pick the least worse, while they still rape us. It's pretty sad. Defund the gov anyone??
 
I see it like picking the next CEO to turn around a failing company with a broken culture. You want someone that comes from the outside that will bring in new ideas, will break the chain and the corporate oligarchy. At the same time you want someone with experience in the industry to reduce the early mistakes due to learning curve.

You don't want to promote form within, someone who only knows life in the broken culture. At the same time you don't want someone that has no experience in the industry that will make a bunch of stupid early mistakes.

But this is dreaming, we get to figure out least worst not good.

That's an even more important and more impossible fight than defunding the police. The way the system is setup, they vote for the length of gravy train that they get to drive. It's hard to find a single politician that puts the countries best interests above their own yet alone a majority to get a fundamental reset passed.

As a starting point, I hate politician as a career. It is a short-term contract job. The mere existence of juicy severance payments for many many staff when politicians don't get re-elected is beyond embarrassing. Every other contract job just shows you the door at the end of your contract.

Giant pension after a few years of work should also go (Completely. CPP is good enough for the common folk, it should be good enough for them). This also helps cycle them back to the private sector to keep a view of the real world alive.

Mark Carney may be a decent mix. Doubt he wants it and may not be willing to play politics enough to get it though.
 
Despite the three strikes ("free" hospitality from a religious leader, SNC-Lavalin and WE scandals), it does not look like that JT and cronies are leaving the building. The Cons are not ready for an election and IMO do not have a credible leader. As for JS, not sure that he has the leadership qualities to be at the helm of our country.

Like Trump? We already have that in Trudeau. He's a former school teacher, that didn't need the money, not even a lawyer. He came in with very little knowledge, but what some would consider a pedigree, and it's been dangerous for us.

I don't know if you can consider JT an outsider. He literally grew up in the system and was taught from a very young age how to exploit it. On day one he may have know more ways to grift without getting in trouble than most career politicians.
 
We need that MP pension reform that my high school teacher talked about in the '70's.
 
My guess is we're at the tip on the iceberg on corruption and conflicts of interest. Investigating these guys is tough, trying them even tougher. They are all savvy enough to control the narrative and to influence people doing and testifying during the investigating. If that doesn't work, they all have political favors in the bank, they spend those if control mechanisms fail.

The worst part is there appear to be no set penalty or sanction other than a max $500 administrative penalty which would have applied to JT and BM's paid vacations.

As long as there are no sanctions, there will be few reasons to be compliant. We have already seen this with Trudeau, Morneau, Duffy, Wallin, McGinty, Brazeau and countless others. Ethics laws without consequences are as useless as a toothless guard dog.

I was laughing that JT thought 2 years in jail and a 200% fine for CERB abuse was reasonable, but when it applies to him and his buddies, just apologize and you aren't even required to pay back what you stole.

I though someone might bring up Trump when I put that out there. Yeah he kinda was a policital outsider, he had a chance to really shake things up, some small part of what he is doing is that, but the other stuff, is just out there, and he's still part of that insiders club of influence and power, and a very sleazy con man. TJ raised on a silver spoon, riding on his last name, has no concept of what regular Canadians are like. And as a drama teacher it's pretty sad he can't speak effectively, you would think that would be a necessary skill in the performing arts. Pretty boy not much more.

I don't have a good reference to what I am referring to, the only one I can think of right now is Pope Francis. I am not religious at all, but this guy seem fairly genuine.

Scheer calling for JT resignation again. I can't see it happening unless someone stumbles on a huge grenade to throw at JT. On the tiny chance that he does get nuked, how to people feel about Freeland? I have no real opinion. JT has kept her squished under his thumb so I have no idea whether she would be a good or bad choice for the country.
