Jury duty

Good on you for going. I’ve been called twice but couldn’t as I legitimately had large classes to teach. I should imagine parts of it are interesting.
 
I have been called multiple times (I think 5 now). My experience is mostly what you experienced for four to five days for the week. Show up, sit in a big room, let go early. Once they offered to sit on a corners inquest (no). Once they actually called us into the court but I was not selected... all the rest, just sat there.

At the University Ave Toronto court they are pretty hardliner with respect to getting out of it. All of my times there is a huge lineup of people with letters and excuses, almost everyone of them was there for the duration. Letter from my employer saying I was mission critical... resulted in go sit down. Outside of the Toronto court it seems getting out is much easier.

Don't forget the charger for your tablet!

Never been but i wouldn't expect anything more then PB&J sandwich.
 
I met my ex-wife on jury duty , October 1,1990. Other than that it was a very positive experience. We were both selected for an armed robbery trial which lasted about two weeks. The defendant had a very good lawyer but it was obvious that the guy was guilty. We went to his sentencing and found out about his previous convictions that we hadn’t known during the trial. He got four years and I can honestly say I felt pretty good about keeping this guy off the street. I would do it again in a heartbeat. At the time we recieved about $20 a day, even in 1990 that was barely enough to buy lunch in downtown Toronto.
 
I did a drug dealer trial once, in my mind the guy was completely guilty , but the Crown and Halton police made such a mess of the arrest and charges that you could not find him guilty based on the crowns evidence . Interesting to sit through for three days .

If you fall asleep during the 20 minute proceedings video do they boot you out. Asking for a friend that falls asleep watching TV.
