Jacket but no gloves?!?

You'd think it would be cut and dry, wear gear, or dont wear gear

Personally, I ride in T-shirt and jeans.. If its really cold, i might wear gloves, and maybe a jacket.

I still believe that the power ranger getup is excessive, theres no doubt it will help prevent rash. but it just seems a bit much.

whatever your choice, you're the one that has to deal with it.

I believe that you should wear what your comfortable in. If you're wearing a leather body bag, and sweating to death, your focus wont be on riding safe,
it will be trying to deal with melting.
comfort = safety

I can't carry my wallet in my gloves. So, I wear a jacket without gloves because the jacket has pockets.

Now I have been known to ride in a tee and I generally ride without gloves. I have ridden with gloves and a tee but then I got asked why my arms have this nice tan while my hands are stone white. My response to that question would result in a ban or moving the thread to tt so, I'll just say I told people my hands were kept in shady place while enjoying the sun.

Cheers.

So, you do care? Or did you mean to write that you couldn't care less?

Anyways, some reasons for wearing jacket and no gloves:

  • fashion statement
  • jacket has his narcotics stored in it
  • his hands are bionic prosthesis and don't need protection
  • guy has mad skills and has demonstrated that during repetitive wipeouts that he can keep his hands from contacting anything bad
  • gloves were stolen at the bar
  • person wants to wear some protection but not complete protection.

Is this not the same issue, however, anytime that a rider wears some protection but not complete protection? For example, why wear leather jacket but not pants? Why wear gloves and a skid lid? etc.

Definitely meant couldn't, im not preaching that people should wear gloves (although you should, what are you buggers nuts?! lol) but the logic of wearing a heavy leather jacket, but not wearing gloves.

The rest of that post is epic ;)
Except for that its spelled anyway (sorry had to reciprocate the ball busting)

I love riding without gloves. You can really get a feel for what the bike is doing without gloves. Plus your grip strength needed is reduced.

So first of all the part about grip strength doesn't make sense, because the more you increase the diameter of the thing you're gripping the less strength you need to grip it. Not to mention you shouldn't be holding tight onto the grips at all, if you are you're doing it wrong.

i can understand how it could cut into your yutt-ugghhhability

I mountain bike all the time. I have trained myself to roll with hands tucked in.

Most ridiculous comment of 2012? I've skateboarded for over 10 years and have "trained" my self to roll with my hands in when I fall. I have never hurt my han....oh wait, I fractured my wrist because I couldn't CONTROL the fall. Your logic is astonishing. You can't predict every crash or fall.

*Disclaimer: I'm not an ATGATT freak, wear (or don't wear) what ever you want, I just hate when people say stupid ****. Good day to all.

so mangos and green eggs don't mix with ham?

Lol, fair enough. The "care less" thing is a pet peeve of mine - that and "irregardless".

low side- no hands, high side- probably hands

Does low side also count as washing out the front? Because i could take pictures of the Knox sliders on my gloves to include that in - probably hands. I just find it funny, dont get me wrong i'm a gear nazi so i usually had my jacket on, but i wont get on a bike without a full face helmet and gloves, even just around the back. My reasoning being that they can always graft skin, they amputate fingers, and i'm kind of fond of my fingers.

I still cant get over the fact that someone said they dont wear gloves for better feel. YUTTT UGGGHHHH

just in case anyone hasnt seen it, go to 1:20 for the glove comment ;)

OMG, me too! But seriously, nothing wrong with riding with no gloves. It's their hands, let them do whatever they want with em.

Look at you, all cute like missing the point of the thread ;)

I'll often ride jacket open and no gloves when warm - keep the gloves in the glove compartment :D
If I go off pavement I'll zip the jacket and put the gloves on or if it gets cold.
My hands are damaged from long years of riding and the gloves makes them worse.

I'll wear shorts as well from time to time if it's hot - usually have a pair of riding pants in the bike for cooler weather or gravel.

I'll only armour up for hard riding in twisties or long stretches on slab where debris is an issue or off road on the KLR.
3/4 all the time except in Australia I bought a convertible I keep flipped up - the rain is so heavy that having the full face flip down option is useful as no decent windscreen on the KLR and a 3/4 = hurt at highway speeds.

Learning to fall is a good thing - one reason I encourage new riders to take an off road course.

I recently drove without gloves and felt my grip and handling was much better. I wish we had gloves like condoms(feeling with protection :)

yeah - I also use a camera frequently - tourist speed and below rides and not fumbling with gloves is good.
Would love to have a glove that had just thin palm covering and knuckle armor leaving fingers free for grip and camera use.
Might cut down a pair of mesh motocross gloves. I hate the way many gloves bunch up cutting circulation.

Kind of missing the point tho no? Doesn't sound like you'd be out riding in shorts and no gloves with a leather jacket zipped up. That was kind of the point, and it's not even about wearing the jacket to stay warm, no only are they wearing an armoured riding jacket (you'd wear a normal jacket if it was just for warmth) but it's on hot day, with no gloves, and shorts lol.

We do, they just cost more money. Get something with kangaroo palms and you'll never go back, i can understand how a low quality thick cow hide glove would be obnoxious, but if you get half descent gloves grip and feeling are a non issue.

I ride with no gloves and a jacket. Just because when I leave work and it's hot I can stash my glove in my tank bag. Jacket is Much harder to jam in there.

I always wonder the same thing about running shoes. In every crash video I've seen the running shoes go flying.

Sometimes with the foot still inside, torn off at the ankle! :)
