Hey guys, anyone ride to Montreal without taking the 401?

Any suggestions, routes to take.... I got a week off, thinking of packing my backpack and riding there, staying in a hostel and writing a journal :)

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Maj.

Theres also hwy 2 which goes along the lake some of the way & includes a free ferry (about 5 mins of it), nice scenic route not too quick.

When I saw the journal bit, I knew it had to be you! Ha Ha.

Why not first go north up to 518 onto to Haliburton Highlands, drop into cobblestone streets of Ottawa (after reading Gatineau on the way in) and after spending a night in the capital ride to Montreal?

If time is not an issue that is...

Take 28 up to Pembroke - stay at Horizon X kayak camp.

Then meander down the Quebec side - Gatineau / Laurentians etc - gorgeous

or if you want a longer run head up to Rouyn Noranda and loop 117 back down.

I went to Montreal this summer, just did it in 1 shot on the 401.
4.5 Hours.

Gives you more time to spend in the awesome city they have :P

I've bookmarked this thread as I drive to Montreal several times a year to visit family. I've wanted to ride there but have always dreaded the thought of doing 500+ kms on very, very boring highway roads. I'd be more open to the suggestion if speed limits / fear of tickets weren't a factor, but endlessly cruising at 115-120 kms an hour seems maddening.

I've taken the following route to Montreal, GORGEOUS

400 > 11 > 118 (awesome) > 28 > 41 >132 > 17 > 417 to Montreal

Wil ltake you abotu 8 hours with short breaks, but it's oh so worth it
