Installing Prehung Door | DIY

I'm going to be installing a prehung door between my walkout basement and garage so I don’t have to freeze every time I want to grab some tools over the winter. Does anyone know the building code for doing this in Mississauga? Does the door have to be fire rated (same as exterior door?) or can it be an interior hollow door? My research online tells me that it should be fire resistant but the guy at Home Depot is ‘quite sure’ that an interior door will work. Also, by code, will it have to swing open into the basement or into the garage?

Also, any tips from those who have done it before will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

The door must be steel clad or fire-rated, and must be equipped with a positive self-closing mechanism. Door must include sealing against entry of exhaust and other fumes. My garage to house door in Mississauga opened into the house, don't know if that's mandatory.

Checked door swing - door can swing either way in a private dwelling, but it must still be equipped with a self-closer and it must provide a seal against exhaust and other fumes.

You probably want a heavy/exterior door regardless of the code, unless you plan to keep your garage heated.

Get a solid core door and buy door seals, a sweep and a threshold. Both for safety and for insulation purposes.

Are you just putting a door in an existing opening... or are you making the opening too?

I'll need to make the opening too. Right now, there's drywall on either side of the wall...I'm just hoping there's no concrete between. Figured I'd rip the drywall completely out to make the install a bit easier.
