Ingrown nails and motorcycle boots

So I've always had an issue with ingrown nails. I decided to do some research today and found out that if you wear no shoes....you'd never get ingrown nails!

My problem is that this "condition" got arguably worse when I started wearing full boots last year. I went on a long ride yesterday and my big toes were in pain. I had no idea why because they never hurt that badly. When I got home and took off my boots....well, I spent 30 minutes swearing and trying to pull the ingrown parts out.

Anyone else have this problem with motorcycle boots? What do you do?

And don't worry, I'm not going to post pictures. It was a bloody/puss-filled mess =P

I stuff kleenex under/beside the nail (depending on where/how it ingrows, from curling down or going to the side). Hurts like a mofo getting it in and for a few hours after, but after that, you'll totally forget you ever had an issue with ingrown toenails! Sometimes you have to replace it after showers, and usually after cutting your nails.

if it is that big of a problem consult your doctor, there are surgeries that can be done...they are usually considered cosmetic but if you complain about pain and that it hurts to walk ohip or extended health care should cover it.
just be sure to get a doctor thats on your side about it.

also, go get a pedicure.. i know some pro athletes and they all get pedicures, if your feet arent comfortable you cant preform your best.

I've had this problem back when I used to be a runner too :(

I'll take your advice if I can't fix this by mid August :@ I think I cut my nails stupid or something, it was never this bad.

Make sure you use a straight nail cutter and cut them straight across, not rounded like nails on your hand.

Dude... really??????
Can I go throw up now? :pukeleft:

I just did. Dammmm.

Talk to your doctor and get it fixed. Why do people have to post stuff like this on the forums??? At least TAFB vs. Christina and their viruses thread was entertaining. This one is not.

I would be disgusted with this thread but my cats anal gland just squirted on the floor and he ate it. I am currently too gagged out to be disgusted by this.

just get to know a nail salon near your area and get pedicure regularly. Make sure to pick a young chick lol.... you can enjoy the service (while checking her boobs lol). I do it usually once a month, sometimes twice.

lol sorry guys. I thought this was common. Didn't mean to make any of you puke.

the width of the boot in the toe area may be too narrow. have you tried wearing wider footwear?

you may be cutting the toe nails too close to the skin at the corners. let it grow out a little longer and as it has already been suggested, cut the nail straight across, not rounded.

as already mentioned, try stuffing a tiny bit of cotton with a tweezer under the corner of the nail, to help it uncurl if it is curled under.

you don't have to see your family doctor. he/she will just refer you to a chiropodist. just call and book the appointment yourself

I used to have ingrown toenails until I started wearing construction boots. The extra space gave the nails room to grow out properly. I learned to trim them properly and haven't had a problem since (Decades). I rarely wear construction boots anymore and still don't have the problem. The only boots I wore on my trip to Mississippi last summer were Sidis and no problems.
