important questions when purchasing a used bike.....(advice needed)

Okay, fair enough. I do my own maintenance, including valve clearance, and document everything. Are you gonna buy my bike?

I dont know anything about you.

After exchanging email, then meeting you in person i'd have to make a decision whether i think that A) you have the ability to do it properly B) you're honest

common sense, no?

With that said, i'd buy a bike without ever seeing it from certain members on here, while wouldn't take one for half price from others.

If the sellers name and location isn't exactly what the UVIP says im outta there.

Me too - I ask for a drivers license to prove the guy Im talking to is the guy on the UVIP too.

But it all comes down to pride of ownership. If the person shows that they have that, its probably a good bike. I had a good feeling about the bike I just bought from a random dude when I went to see it and he had the service manual in a binder with each section labeled with dividers and the bike had the ugly rear light/license assembly still on it (tells me it is not molested).

Check it out the best you can, make sure all the legal things line up, and then go with your gut. Whatever you do, dont feel rushed or compelled to buy something you're unsure about.

ok seems to work!

thanks again guys for all the advice...

sushibboy i will most likely give you a shout via pm in regards to your offer about what to look for with buying used bikes. thank you.

as it is currently, there have not been many bikes of the 3 big japanese brands on the private sale market (kijiji) that have caught my eye....and quite honestly i found quite a few good ones at kahuna and vos.

GP bikes is a really nice place but there selection on the big 3 jap brands is very small....although they DO have a lot of nice Duc's!

Markham Outdoor Power is great too in terms of service, i've spent a bit of time with the mechanics and the salesman Yaya....all really genuine and nice. although they dont have a good used bike selection.....mainly brand new stuff.

Vos, despite what i read on this forum has the most selection of bikes.....and i met vlad and zurab who seem like good guys. can anyone update me on any positive experiences since the bad review of vos last year?

Kahuna seemed good too although they didnt have as big a selection on used bikes as Vos did.

I also checked out a place called Goodwheel Motors and the salesman i talked to was really genuine and didnt pressure me at all.....although unfortunately they didnt have any colors that caught my eye. their bikes were all from the states as well....

......

this is like my 3rd attempt to post this message i have been getting errors all day.....hopefully this works

Check out Can-North in Oakville. It's off season and he may not have much but it's worth a try.

It doesn't have to be in the name of the person selling it. Some people sell for profit, some people can't afford insurance after they purchase the bike. I've bought and sold vehicles like that. It may not be legit but in most cases it is.

Also go to a dealership if you like to pay government the 13% theft money. I prefer private sales.
you pay HST on the amount of the bike either way. what you claim you paid and what you actually paid may not match but thats a whole other topic.

If the sellers name and location isn't exactly what the UVIP says im outta there.
this... im not risking my hard earned $ on some fool thats flipping bikes or a highly possible scam. could be a stolen bike that just wasnt reported yet. lots of bikes are stores away from the owners home, it may take weeks or months before they know its stolen.

some people have too much trust in strangers.
