How old is old when buying helmet

I am looking to get a helmet as my current helmet is more than 7 years old. I have decided what helmet I want (S3) however checking GP bikes in store they have only 1 in display and other one in the "back" is from 2024. My second choice for helmet had sticker dated October 2025. Considering recommended lifetime of helmet is 7 years (max) what's your take on how old is considered old when buying brand new helmet in store. I don't even see this option (date of manufacture) mentioned in online store like fortnine or revzilla. Most people recommend not to buy helmet online.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

If it's been in a controlled environment and the price is reasonable, I'm ok with a few years old NIB. <3 years of storage and 7years useful life before replacement doesn't seem terrible to me.

For online, it's a crapshoot. I have never seen a store list DOM. Occasionally, you can take an educated guess due to changes in colorways.

Our race helmets are allowed up to 6 years. And that's with a lot of on/off and sweating in them. I'd have no problem buying a 2/3 years old "new" helmet that's been in a controlled environment for the street, so long as it is discounted. Would skip it for the track just because half it's "legal" life is gone.
So long as I don't crash, I usually take my old race helmets and use them on the street. Then when they start to show signs of wear, they become my parking lot instructing helmets.

The crashed ones are on display in my kitchen.
