How common is it for motorcyclist to ride without a license plate?

Sometimes (not that often) on the road you see sport bikes without license plates. And all the time on youtube...

What is the plan of people who do this? Are they assuming they can just outrun a cop anyway so they risk it?

It doesn't seem THAT common but I've definitely noticed it.

So I guess my question is how often do people this?

(I'm not planning to btw, I don't even have a bike yet, I've just always wondered)

They plan to break the law and not stop if they are spotted.

Plate is on the bike but flipped

I hear it's done to evade Toll charges on the 407, lane split and basically any shenanigans that would require someone to run once the cherries come on

Yeah, that or they have flip plates (also illegal). IMO, that's just silly.. You're asking for trouble.

I guess considering the mobility and super speed of a 600 or higher bike it would be pretty easy to cut a few lanes be gone.

Only problem is when you get caught I'm sure its fairly serious.

Also if you're on a highway I wouldn't be surprised if they had a helicopter in this country or USA and then you're toast.

Look over the rear wheel, deep under the subframe, many people stuff their plates there.

Bingo!

Can't you see by them taking proactive steps they are trying to prevent said trouble.

OR.... they could prevent said trouble by not being idiots. That's just my opinion.

What about the ones that are not idiots and were fraudulently charged?

not possible
cops are all honest, and all bikers are trouble makers

Most cops are honest. Some bikers are not too bright. The guy who drove to his "driving without a license" hearing, and waved to the cop in the parking lot, comes to mind.

This sounds like an old buddy of mine, he definitely would have done this, but he also rode his old gixxer with no plates, definitely would have never stopped if a cop attempted to pull hime over.

not-surpisingly, when I first met him in highschool it was at a fast food place just after his court appearance for trespassing at this same place ...

never said he was the sharpest knife if the drawer

Never understood the logic behind that. The moment a cop sees that, you would have their undivided attention, no? Which is the opposite of flying under the radar.

Noticed a bike recently that had the plate curled around some sort of bracket on the rear axle/swingarm. I can't imagine that wouldn't draw unwanted attention either.

It's for weight reduction I've heard....well for the real racers.

I dunno. Having to worry about cops doesn't sound like an enjoyable ride to me.

Dunno, I guess whoever wants trouble just attracts it with stuff like that. Especially considering that there are 'proper' fender eliminators being sold on the market - visible plate, built-in light, and no rear fender.
