Horizons Unlimited, Ontario Meet

Weather permitting (yes, I know I'm a big pussy), I plan to go on Friday and probably camp one night, come home Saturday...

I have a rain suit anyway, weather permitting should be a good blast avoiding asphalt like the plague on the way home!

My bike is up for sale - not sure how hard core I want to make the ride home...I don't need to take any chances of wrecking it :)

I don't mind riding in the light rain, just don't feel like camping in it.

Damn! Just saw this post now....I want to bike Alaska to tip of S. America sometime in next 2-3 years and am looking for all the advice I can get. How was the weekend?

Hi zrxter, if you are interested in a trip like that, check out my close buddies on there trip from London, England to the tip of South America at: http://toughmiles.com/. We have done some long trips together in India before, but unfortunately I could not join on this one. They just entered Mexico today, so this will be a very interesting section for you.

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the link. I just spent the last hour + on their site. Amazing adventure, good for them. Are they still happy w the DRXs? Wish I had done more of this when I was younger. I retire this winter and am going crazy anticipating the rides i'll be doing in the next few years, before i get too decrepit for hard riding. I did a 14 700 kms tour on my ZRX, in under a month, this summer and know that i can still ride long hours. I'd really like to hear some of your stories sometime.

If you're doing alaska... http://www.brunowessel.com/studs/stud_seasons.asp this might be useful. Not sure if its up-to-date, but a quick search for each province or states laws should help you find it.
If you can leave alaska during the permitted period, you can use studded tires until you hit America. Just checked the Alaksa laws and the sites correct about them. So you'd have until April 15th to clear south of 60*N in Alaska into Canada. And until April 30th to clear the Canadian provinces (except Ontario) into the states.
Studded tires makes riding in snow and on ice safer...

Just a thought to keep in mind.

wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait....

maybe disregard what i just said.

Alaska isn't snowy all year round? I had no idea...

Hello zrxter,

Yes, they have been incredibly happy with bikes themselves, choosing and location tires has been the biggest battle so far. Keep an eye on the site as there is a video filmed by Suzuki US. coming up soon, you get a real insight into their trip and some close ups of the bikes. I would be happy to meet up and talk adventure with anybody lol, so when you are making some trip considerations, lets talk!
