Yup - see Burgman 650 - and even that will rev to 8500.
Roll and go.....the BMW 650s as well.

700 seems a weird bird. DCT would have been the ticket.
It IS all about gas mileage really.

Building a commuter with marginal storage and a rapid shift requirement seems dumb in the face of other bikes in the same class.

It should handle well but again the limiter will be a drag on twistie fun.

Honda should haul the PC800 engineers out of retirement and let them loose.

As I mentioned before, "... torque curve like a tabletop." That frequent shifting requirement likely isn't there. It also doesn't have marginal storage capacity, given the factory option for luggage. If you just need a place to store a helmet and lock, you're good to go. If you need more, you can have it.

I believe it when I try it .. . :-) So far I will go with what the reviewers have said about the bike.

I'd really like to see you to trade your Kawi for this. To me these are very different bikes ... either you are not liking your current bike much, otherwise I don't get it ..... :-(

I have no problem with this bike's place and position in the market place. When I start shaking my head is when people start comparing it with bikes built with totally different purpose and class in mind. Like trying to make the bike something it is not.

I'm liking my current bike just fine, apart from the need to tank up every 2 days. I had to build something with much of the NC's utility myself, though, so I'd likely have bought it if it had existed at the time.
 
You are a prime candidate for two bike stable .... NC700 Mo-Fri commute, Kawi for everything else. My commute is 15 clicks one way, so it will never hit my radar ....

Absolutely. It doesn't sound any worse than a dual sport engine and those are great commuter and newbie bikes. The first time I tried a dual sport I hit the rev limiter once and from then on I knew when to shift. Maybe this engine is too quiet? Either that or the journos were just having fun with the limiter.

But it's really not meant for us. The low power is to suit foreign graduated licensing requirements, 3L/100km to account for the high price of gas abroad, and nimbleness for the type of riding they enjoy overseas.

Read that article this morning, as Tonymorgan mentioned earlier in this thread the single brake disc up front is very off putting.

As Steve found no real issue with the single front disk I doubt that anyone here, who would consider this bike, would either. There are still cruisers around, with single disk. The GS500F has a single front disk.
 
What were the weather conditions like during his ride? Yeah I'm sure they mimicked a rainy day commute in Toronto. ;)

You know what if the bike had two discs up front I would have seriously pondered about buying a street bike again.
