Honda - Motorcycle Supershow - Any word/news on 250/300cc bike?

Does Honda have any news/info at the motorcycle supershow regarding the CBR250?

According to their website, there is no news/information on 2014 CBR250. Infact, the 2013's are marked down by Honda 20% ($4999 down to $3999).

Some rumors/articles around the internet already imply the cbr250 will be replaced by a 300cc.

Any news at the show? Any reliable info on this topic?

Thanks!

Partial thread-jack, but also if anyone is at the show, I'd like to know if Honda has the newer 2013-14 there as well, as I'd really like to throw a leg over one/see one in person again.

Thanks

I thought Honda was coming out with a 300 soon. Maybe that's why they're marking down the 250's

Doubt it. Honda is pushing the CBR 500. If you want a fast 300, the Ninja is your bike.

I didn't even see a Honda Canada booth at the show, i must have missed it.

With the exception of Kawasaki, corporate displays were not expected at this show. It's a dealer/flea market type show. We all knew this. If it's factory representation you're looking for, go to the February show.

I'm riding between Long Beach, LA and Palm Springs that weekend.

Yikes..kick in the teeth to the buyer at $5000, this drops his bike value another grand. I can't believe what they are selling 250s and 300s for, and they are worth half in a few years. It's almost better to pay the insurance and hold on to a bigger used bike.

I only saw a one Honda dealer booth which is from Barrie. But as Jayell said it was only Kawi that had a corporate booth. It also didn't hurt that the rockstar girls were taking pics on the bikes as I was passing by that area. Might of helped a few sales go through ;)

almost all bikes are worth half the out the door price after about 3 years.
think about it, a new CBR600rr is about $13,500+taxes, out the door probably around 15grand on the road after taxes. i bought a 2009 last year for $8000..7 grand loss in 4 years, and only 3000km.

i think the CBR 500 is the smaller CC bike everyone should be looking at, IMO its become a pissing match between the smaller cc bikes giving them a 50cc bump every couple years, making no one want the older model. the 500cc's will be around for a while and will hold more than enough power to keep most riders happy.

I seriously considered the CBR500, but couldn't understand this bike. I'll elaborate:

2013 Ninja 300 = 38.9HP and the bike weighs 172kg (1HP per 4.4kg) - info from kawasaki canada
2013 CBR 500 = 43.5HP and the bike weighs 196kg (1HP per 4.5kg) - infor from honda canada and multiple dyno from youtube

So in conclusion, the CBR500 has more HP than a Ninja 300, but it's much heavier, negating any power benefits its larger engine produces.

I really don't understand what Honda is trying to accomplish, or what rider they are appealing to, with the CBR 500.

If I have something really wrong, please let me know.

i think you just proved my previous post. trying to get every ounce of power out of the smallest CC bike you can.

the CBR500 is a bigger heavier bike, it in theroy shouldnt be pushed around as much by wind.

personally i ride a 600rr, so i dont care either way.

curious though, whats the power to weight ratio of the 600rr vs the cbr1000?
ill look it up later.

Quality. The CBR500 is leaps and bounds better manufactured and smoother then the Ninja is. That being said our 11 Ninja 250 has been dead reliable.

The fuel efficiency of 300cc and 500cc is not the same. Operating cost is higher.

300 and 500 are likely different insurance brackets too so operating cost is also higher.

A 300 is probably easier to resell than a 500.

I love my Suzuki TU250X and won't be selling it. They are releasing the GW250 which is a more upright seating but parallel twin like the Ninja. Consider Suzuki too!

I have to say the Ninja 300 build and finish quality is impressive. Honda is using heavier, cheaper (more reliable?)components.

The CBR500 has larger ergonomics. They are going for the crowd that commutes and is looking for a reliable sporty ride without feeling like they are too big for the bike. That torque in the lower revs makes all the difference.

HP is a fake number that means nothing, and is just used for marketing, the torque charts tell a very different story, you really have to wring that 300 to get that power. Yeah, 430lbs is lardy, but likely better on the highway.
