highway speed limit increase

Won't ever ever happen here in Ontario.

If the raised the limits to 120, they would start ticketing at 125, much like they used to do in the US.

I wish it would happen here, everyone goes 120k anyway.

No thanks .

Unless real driving skills are taught when you get you license .Many people in Ontario shouldn`t be driving on 400 series never mind at 120 .

Crashes and fatalities have been on the decline on the 400s, the main reason is anti-lock brakes. Any idiot in an F150 can stop in 130 ft now from 100. Before that people would skid out across two lanes in a cloud of blue smoke before hitting someone, like every hour.

Should this ever happen it is unlikely that the speed limit around Toronto would change. In the States they have much higher limits on the interstates but all are 55-60 around heavily congested areas such as cities

i wonder if the demographic was the key for the speed change, they definately need higher speed limits in b.c lol

i must say i am liking this change. Got out on a reasonably long ride today. Downtown Vancouver to Merritt ... approx 250km one way.
On the Hwy 1 portion (110kph) i averaged 130ish. Pretty much what i did when it was 100 but now i am not bumping up on the underside of the
impound law (40 over) ... on the trip from Hope to Merritt hwy 5 aka the Coquihalla highway the speed limit is 120. So i was average at 135 to 145.

hwy 5 is nice and scenic with great mountain views. A long climb from sealevel in Hope to over 4000ft.

and tho there were still a few left lane hogs going speed limit or just above, for the most part if a faster vehicle approached the slower one, the slow one would move
over. Nice. Now if we can just get legal lane splitting / filtering i would be in heaven.

Sure was a nice day Vancouver for sure, I may try Merritt soon, waiting for some routine work at Deeley's, yup have too pay mucho more at a dealer...

Not really. The average driver in Ontario is just that, average. Fully capable of doing 120 on the 400 series highways. Are there people who should not be allowed on the 400 series highways? Of course. But these are a very small minority...

How do people manage to drive at average of 130 on the 407 without issues?

This mentality that "Speed" is the problem is what is causing the grid lock in this city.

I agree with you that the quality of driving skills in Ontario is really bad, but slowing people down, it just gives them more of a perception of safety and then is when they get distracted and start using their phone, drinking their 2x2 coffee while eating their burger all of this while driving on the passing lane.

If they felt the urgency of movement from a higher speed limit, they will first move the hell away into the slow lane and then pay attention to their driving and not be distracted.

Drove in Europe for 3 weeks, when you got into a city, there was no time to grab your phone and make a call, you needed to get the hell out of the way and concentrate on driving because people meant business, the car was to get from A to B, not to use as your personal office.

But people that think like you will never understand, I guess the rest of us just have to live with having to drive around the Sunday drivers on the fast lane.

our commuting times don't help the cause.
I don't know too many Europeans that drive as much as we do here. 100km is a short distance with our highway's, in most european cities I've been to, 100km's to them means 'pack a sandwich with you'.

Absolutely, most things about our life styles sucks in comparison, but yet they are in bad economical shape. That is a whole other discussion
