There's a lot that goes into why your butt hurts riding a bike. No pun intended. Well, maybe a bit.

The two most important from my experience are fitness and bike ergonomics. The bike seat and what you're wearing are last. Powders and such are to mitigate problems with the previous issues.

I used to ride a sport touring bike and after 2+ hours the inside of my thighs were aching from friction/pressure. I dropped the pegs an inch and it improved a lot. Still a problem after 4 or more hours.

I ride a SS now with a seat about as soft as a table top. I rode 5000 kms in four days and not the least pain in my butt. My weight is often in motion being shifted in the seat and varying amounts being carried by my legs but, even 10 hours of droning on slab and still no pain or irritation.

I know many long distance riders suggest sheepskin or beaded seat cover things. I think that's to deal with bad bike ergonomics but if it works for ya, go for it.

Good luck. Not much worse than an aching butt.

2700km in three weeks

128km a day is NOT a lot of seat time...

Sheep skin, Beadrider, Airhawk, Corbin (or other aftermarket seat supplier), all will help prevent monkey butt.

Sorry bud, can't help much on this issue...

My butt doesnt hurt even after it's been on a shaved seat all day long... :D

gel seat pad insert (look up "Butt Buffer". terrible name, great product)

cycling shorts, or similar will also help a lot. I usually wear Pug underarmor but CK spandex/lycra undershorts are great too.

if you're on a cruiser, a high quality medical grade sheepskin (densely packed hairs) is also very comfortable.

I did 3000 in 3 days (11,500 in 19 days total) and one of the first days was almost 1600km. All on a stock monster seat. Airhawk made a MASSIVE difference. It also helps that i stuffed my fleece sweater in there. I got it for like $150 tax in at gp. I don't really like gold bond for the smell and the effect the menthol has on my junk. I use johnson's brand baby powder. I had 0 problems with saddle ***.

This.

About 2-3 weeks after I got my bike I went for a trip to the states on it. I did 4 installment of ~800-1000kms (getting lost is fun), 4 different times; in the winter. To washington DC, then (close to, not exactly) myrtle beach, back to DC, then back to Oakville. These were done on 4 different day (spent 1.5 weeks in dc, and 1.5 near myrtle, and a day in DC the next time for a nap.)

My butt only hurt a small bit.
