Heads up on Nexus renewal (application?) delay

Applied for renewal three months ago and still haven't heard anything. Logged into the site today and my application is still pending. There is a note saying they have extended the grace period from six months to one year for those whose cards have expired but have submitted renewal applications "due to a significant increase in application volume".

I assume the delay applies to new applications as well.

Get those applications in now to hopefully get a card for bike season!

My Nexus expired last year and my reapplication was processed immediately and had my new Nexus card in 6 weeks; no interview required.
My son reapplied for his Nexus 2 weeks ago, we'll see how long it takes.
