I'm riding down to the Dragon again next month and wondering if anyone has any good 2 day routes for the ride down.

The last 2 years now I just shoot over the border Friday morning and get on US219 and ride it all the way down. I hit the BRP the second day and end up where we're staying at the base of the Cherohala Skyway around supper time. I find it's a good ride, 219 get's the better the farther south you go, Just wondering if there's any other good options.

I'm looking for a 2 day ride(Fri/Sat) that will put me in Robinsville sometime in the afternoon.

I'm a fan of Skyline Dr to Blue Ridge Parkway. Hop off the BRP anywhere south of Robbinsville when you start running out of time.

Do you mean anywhere south of Asheville?

Here's a 20hr route: http://goo.gl/maps/q1e8S includes some 219 through Monongahela, some of the better part of BRP and some others...

My favourite stretch is Front Royal to Roanoke, south of Roanoke I don't mind skipping. That said, I haven't taken 219 south of I80 in a while.

They are both good in their own way. Skyline Drive costs about $10 entry and is 105 miles long Speed limit is 35mph the whole way through and sometimes this can be enforced (though it wasn't when I rode it and I had a blast!) For the most part it runs long the top ridge of Shenandoah and so you get really amazing views from that high up. The curves are very nice and the pavement is smooth as glass. This is a really good map.

Hwy 219 is much longer (535miles) and has varied pavement quality and curves. There are some sections of it that are really fun and other sections that are more straight. It's a really good route to get down to the Smokies.

Thanks for the replies.

I Haven't done Skyline but US219 is a bit of everything, winding country road, 2 lane bypass and so on, and the further south the better it get's. That's basically Why I started taking it down and back, the interstate routes suck *** IMHO. Great for making good time but droning along in a straight line is so boring, and after a while my knee starts throbbing on interstates.
