Im also looking at commuting more as my gfs car is on its last legs and there's no point in having two cars in the house. She'll use my car and ill commute to work via bike. Transit isn't a huge benefit as it takes 2 buses to get to the office.
as for clothes and shoes...leave some clothes at work. I always stash golf shirts, pants and shoes at the office so I don't need to bother with getting them all wrinkled on the ride. If you don't have an office or locker ask a manager or someone that does if you can take a small space and I'm sure they'd be fine with that.
