Guelph considers going Caledon-way

Hahaha at some of the suggestions. (Require owners to have their vehicles tested by police so that they can have a "license" to operate in city limits? Who's going to pay for THAT? And what about someone passing through from elsewhere? Let's see whoever made that "suggestion" get a "noise license" for their own vehicle in Guelph, and Caledon, and Mississauga, and Brampton, and Kitchener, and Timmins and every municipality between here and there, and so on ...)

Has Caledon actually written any tickets under their own bylaw, which was supposed to take effect a few weeks ago? Last I heard, there was an issue of some sort with the means of measuring engine RPM (I'm not surprised, given how they were proposing to do it) and they were only going to be testing at idle.

I like the bit about "banning unnecessary yelling in the city 24 hours a day".

All I can say is LOL...who gets bothered by air conditioners?

While I appreciate the sentiments it looks like they are trying to legislate courtesy. Is it necessary to cheer at a baseball game and if so, how loud? The loud pipe bit has been discussed before IIRC.

Too bad this wasn't in place for my best friend years ago. She put up with a complete a-hole neighbour in Guelph who for years took great pleasure in revving the crap out of his HD at 5:30am every summer morning. He was a cop with quite the chip on his shoulder who told any neighbour who complained to him to F* themselves. The entire neighbourhood was delighted when he finally moved.

Was that you, Turbodish? Do you live in Guelph?

I really wish the province would make it law all around for strong penalties if your car, sled, bike or boat is obnoxiously loud.

I can tell you, living on a busy street, that there is nothing worse than a**hats with loud pipes going by your window at 6:00 am.

I've never been a loud pipes freak, or a cop for that matter.

True enough. I'd love to see the province incorporate a version of the Caledon motorcycle noise bylaw into the HTA so it's province-wide, and when available, a corresponding exhaust noise test for cars and light trucks too.

Pfft...no imagination. What we do is make it legal to throw half-full cups of coffee at noisy idiots. After that, the courts can busy themselves with brand/temp/sugar/cream subsections.

I remember some time ago, there was a segment on the news about one case downtown.... it was someone's rental property (duplex or triplex) and they had industrial AC unit installed on the side of the building... the type that is only to be installed on the roof - and that sucker was LOUD... kicking in and out all the time... drove all neighbours crazy...
As for loud pipes, I hope they get something in the books soon... there is no need for straight pipes - anywhere in the world.

I got pulled over a few days ago (didn't get a ticket cop was super nice) and he commented on my baffleless yosh full system, I thot he was going to give me a hard time so I said something along the lines of ya I'm getting a stock pipe, this ones to loud. He said then said no don't bother put the loudest pipe u can get cause you want other cars to hear u

Thought it was weird hearing it from a cop, ppl just have different opinions on loud pipes
