GTAM Member review/feedback

so something in this transaction has gone wrong, I get it,,,,but it seems some on here are against haggling, if I am buying something I always haggle a price, unless it's stated that it's a firm price and no negotiations....I just purchased a car for my wife, I offered 25 percent less than what was being asked, it didn't fly but I knew it wasn't, but it was a start, in the end I ended up at 13 percent less of the asking price

in this jacket scenario buyer screwed up a bit, but the seller took it too heart way too much, and threatening him was a bit overboard and it could have gone without that part.....imho......

I've dealt with idiots from kijiji/other forums for too long, I would be on board for for a thread like this so the baddies get weeded out. We had one on the paintball forum and it worked like a charm. Works on ebay as well.

I've never done any transactions with any members here yet so I cant contribute to the feedback part of this thread (which is a good idea btw)

I'm glad you said no to the dude on $5 shy of asking price, It's all about principle!

no I dont think so. If you want to haggle, you do it upfront. I recently asked another member about buyign their kevlar jeans, I said if it fits will he take $xx for it, (About $20 less than he was asking) he came back and met me half way and reduced the amount by $10. We met up, I tried the jeans, but they did not fit :-( :-( so no sale. I did my haggling upfront and before and we both had an agreed price.

If yo ucontact the seller, and agree to meet regarding an item, most people would assume you agree to the posted price. I will never deal with people who haggle when they meet up. To be fair this has only happened a few times (not from GTAM) but Kijiji people, and its usually people who are recent immigrants. I think its in their culture to "bargain". If you travel to Turkey and Asia for example, its culture there to haggle on a price when purchasing things.
 
How do you haggle with a prostitute there? "I offer you the opportunity to marry me for 1 hour upon which I will teabag and dirty Sanchez you for $5 and not a dinar more!"

I made my statements based on the comments made by the buyer, no price was firmed upon, nothing more....

I am not trying to get in the middle of this, just making an observation of the situation....

I myself would have taken the cash and called it a day, as I already spent the time and effort and gas getting to the buyers location, at least I would have sold the thing, or done as the buyer, told him to piss off under my breath and taken the jacket home and sold it another day....or given it to GoodWill.......

I drove 3 hours to go see a bike that was in mint condition, money in hand, well when I got there the bike was a pile of crap, wouldn't start, cracked fairings, ****** paint job, over all a 1 out 10, it happens, I got back in the car and went home....6 hours wasted.....all based on a picture taken 4-5 years prior and made to make one believe it was current....life goes on....

This. The few I've dealt with have been great. Once I sold a jacket to a "quiet" member. Agreed to meet in Bolton which is half an hour for me. No questions about my price. Everyone walked away happy. Kijiji is a whole other ballpark.....

Helping people is for the birds. I did an impromptu fridge move last Saturday. The guy couldn't lowball me because I did it for free. Idiot.
 
I helped someone once for a free couch. They called back asking me to take it back (didn't like) even after I delivered for free (vs paying the dump). I said it's your couch and it's your problem.

I won't contemplate driving to someone's to sell an item. You get there, they lowball you and waste your time.
You probably wanted to sell that jacket pretty bad
 
Transaction feedback would be a great idea. I've used in on a few other forums to try to see if potential buyers are deadbeats.

You should have sold him the jacket for $50 and just charged him $25 for gas money!
 
It seems to be a generational thing. They don't want to work but they want to be a millionaire by Friday! Unless I see "obo" I assume the price is firm and act accordingly.

It's a logical thing and a lot of people don't get it. Your post nailed it right on. If it doesn't say obo that's the price. If you're going to try to offer less do It before meeting someone. If they say no then you saved both of you a trip.

I decided i am going to be a nice guy and help this guy and drove from oshawa during my lunch to Seneca college at 404 and finch

I got there
He tried jacket
He offered me 50
I said no
He said 60
I said no
He said 70
I said no

(I said no out of principle)

He walked away, as he was walking away i told him dont ever do this to anyone again... tell a guy you will take a jacket and you need it and he drives out here and you low ball him.

He gave some attitude. I told him to drop the attitude or i will drop him where he stood. He left
