Man there are lot of choices! It's sensory overload trying to pick one. I need a waterproof (obviously) unit with MP3.It looks like a Zumo 550 is the only one.Anyone?

in terms of waterproof yes, though you could buy a ram mount or otterbox waterproof case and only have it waterproof on the bike. i have a nuvi 765t that i use poor biker's water proofing. kept the unit dry in torrential downpour last summer that had cars pulling over.

I had a nuvi 250. No casing nothing. Had it in 10 torrential downpours and that thing still runs. That thing is built like a rock

Bought and returned the Zumo this past year.

It desperately needs updating. It's the best 1996 had to offer in GPS technology, wrapped in a fantastic motorcycle specific mount and waterproof box and great hardwiring. But seeing my other buddy's running 85$ units with a little careful use of silicone around the corners, with far better features really got the best of me (Zumo 660 was 600$).

I ended up mounting a Blackberry playbook, and putting it into a water resistant otterbox. Cost less than half what the Zumo cost, and had ten times the features. Clearly not a choice for a smaller bike as it'd look like you've strapped a plasma TV to bicycle, but i've been happy with the results.

I wanted updated traffic, regardless of wether I was covered in an RDS zone, up to date maps at all times, weather radar etc. Which put me quickly into 'expensive' gps territory, and ones that I really wasn't willing to risk getting wet, and cost more than the myriad of inexpensive tablets out there.

Getting creative with a mount and some waterproofing other devices might be worth considering.
