Gotta love crackheads, bastards rummaged through my tankbag

I work near crackhead central (moss park), and park my bike in a private parking lot that's accessible from Queen St. I always leave my tank bag on the bike, but with nothing of value in it. Been like that all season, commuting almost every day.

Sure enough, this morning a coworker tells me my bag is wide open. Not much lost, just a couple US dollars I keep for tolls, my beat to hell Ray Bans (both lenses cracked) I've been meaning to replace all summer, and a ten dollar multi tool. Nothing I care about, but still have that sinking feeling inside. Can't stop thinking about what I might have left in there, though I doubt there was anything important or of value

Guess my point is, doesn't matter how minor the items stolen, still sucks, and I hate crackheads!

I think it's more, the feeling of being violated. Someone went into YOUR tank bag and took YOUR personal belongings.

Hrrrm, now I know what to do when I have some old batteries and paint to get rid of. Thanks!

I just assumed that would be expected in the GTA. Actually, I would just expect someone to steal the whole bag. I wouldn't even trust hard luggage here.

Then again, I know plenty of thieving bastards in Guelph as well and I've left my bike in a GreenP lot with the key in it overnight and it was still there. Really in either location I'd expect the bag to get rummaged through or stolen.

next time, leave some ajax or rat poison in a little baggie for them.

i doubt they will bother you again, after that

Neither will anyone else. Canada's laws are clear here, if you set a trap (no matter how justified) and someone gets hurt, you get punished.

how is that a trap ? not my fault if someone steals something from me and hurts themselves with it.

lol i was just taking it to a friends house, they have a rat problem.

Yeah, like cops are gonna spend time helping crackheads with no fixed address.

Is your tankbag strapped to the bike or is it magnetic to the tank (like mine)?
I'm just curious to know why it was left there. If it's magnetic, just grab the handle and walk away, but if it's strapped to the bike then I can understand how annoying it would be to set it up everytime.

I also don't leave anything important in my tankbag when I leave it on the bike as I am getting a bite to eat or going somewhere to take a leak.
While I ride my cell and wallet are in there but I take them out and pocket them everytime I leave the bike even for 30 seconds, cause that's all it takes.

Wait, you're leaving stuff lying around near Moss Park?? And you're surprised?!?!? :-)

The whole GTA is crawling with these sub-humans. A few years ago one of these mutants tried to steal my truck from the GO station in Brampton. Broke the ignition lock and part of the steering column but failed to start it. Cops caught him breaking into another vehicle a few hours later. Of course, this bi-pedal rodent hasn't got any money, so I'm out hundreds in repairs and he gets a court-appointed lawyer and tax-funded drug programs.

I like some of these ideas, hmmmmm...

Can't say I'm surprised, actually kinda surprised it took them almost all season to get in there. That's why I make a point to leave as little as possible in the bag. Normally I even take the ray ban's with me, but dropped them in the bag for some reason this morning. I leave the bag on the bike cause I try to move it as little as possible for the sake of my tank paint.

I've brushed it off now, since it's so minor. Nothing like the time my MacBook got stolen out of my trunk in the same area.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if something was stolen when you leave it in plain view with no locks. Would you be surprised if you left your car windows open with a pack on the front seat and something had been stolen?

I don't think this is a "crackhead" issue. Its a simple theft prevention issue.

This is why I prefer to use a backpack for commuting. If that's no good, then maybe consider lockable Givi's or something.

Used to ride with a backpack but it gets to be a pain sitting in hot humid traffic for over an hour. A Givi case would be absolutely ideal, just can't bring myself to fork out the big bucks for the rack and trunk.
