So I got my cell Bill today, and there's over$75 in charges from bango.com, apparently Google play had added a Bill to my cell phone feature, so my son downloads free games, but they charge everything he buys , which he thinks is free because it says free when he downloads it. Long story short be gets an option to add a payment method, credit card, play store card, or bill to cell, so the only thing hrs can do it click Bill to cell. I called Rogers and after a 2 hr argument with them, and a threat to cancel all 4 of our phones they decide to credit it back to me. I don't know how the hell they are allowed to do this, most kids won't understand the repercussions of clicking it. I told Rogers I don't want them to Bill anything to his number, but they said they can't stop it, that's total b.s.. I own the account,I don't understand how they can make these charges without my approval. I'm going to check if Apple does this, and if not,I may have to reconsider my dislike of Apple and change all the phones to iPhones. Total crooks.

hey man. I think you should be arguing with your Kid over this one, Not bell.. Your Kid hit the button, not bell.
Would you, or will you use the same argument when he starts downloading porn ? Gonna Blame the Google becasue theres porn available..
maybe slap some sense into the kids head
Now that i think about it, maybe you need the head slap,
Sure its your account, but you are the one who gave it to an irresponsibale kid

Stop blaming other people for a situation that you started.

This is the reason why I never connected my cc or bank account to anything online.

I don't understand how they are allowed to do this if I tell my provider I don't want anything billed to my account, they should be able to block it

Agreements they have with providers. When you sign the acknowledgement to setup your phone. It has all of this and that's all the provider needs. I would suggest you try contacting google to see what they say. Don't connect cc to something you give to your kids.

Your village is calling...

It's not connected to a cc, they are billing it to my cell phone bill. This had nothing to do with an agreement with my cell because this practice started long after I had my cell account.

You own the account, so go into the phone settings and turn off the data on your son's phone.

Lock your phone!

Disabling password protection on your device may result in unauthorized purchases. We strongly encourage you to keep password protection enabled if you have children or if others have access to your device. You assume responsibility for all charges made on your account.

Rogers was the first carrier in Canada to support Play Store gift card redemption earlier this year, and is now claiming the same for Android-based carrier billing.
The provider already supports carrier billing on BlackBerry and Windows Phone, but Google’s APIs were more recently introduced and are taking time to catch on. Carrier billing refers to the ability to pay for an app, in-app purchase, movie, magazine or book using your Rogers account, having it show up on your next bill.
In an email to us Rogers says it’s rolling out to select customers now, and will soon reach all Android users.
“Today, Rogers is beginning to roll out carrier billing to the Google Play store to a select amount of Rogers customers. Customers will be able to access this as an alternative payment option when making a payment in Google Play. We expect this service to be available to all customers in the coming weeks.
There is no word on whether other carriers like Bell or TELUS will follow suit. Rogers customers will still need to enter their Google account passwords before making purchases, ensuring unauthorized access without a credit card is still difficult.

Don't trust anyone!!

Must be only available to Rogers customers as I haven't seen this option on my phone yet. But if the purchases still work the same way and only the payment method differs, you can set up a password for your Google Play account that is required to authorize purchases.

how about take responsibility for your kids actions ? take their phone away if all they are doing is playing games on it, buy a Nintendo DS. lol

Oilycreek, I'm interested to know... was the bill detailed? Can you see which apps were downloaded? Can you confirm that the apps downloaded were indeed free apps?

So, was the bill detailed? What exactly were they billing for if the apps were free?

I'm guessing you get a free taste of the game, then to continue you need to agree to pay $. Fairly typical structure.

Every single game is like that. That's the revenue structure. Download the game free...buy extra lives, extra weapons, different outfit, whatever. My app purchases go directly on my cell phone bill. I'm with rogers. Google didn't scam you. Your son owes you his allowance for a while.
