Good progressive sport bike with resale value?

Hi All,

Currently I'm riding a 250 Ninja and was looking at upgrading to a 600 something. I'm really looking to find a used bike with a good resale value since I'll probably sell it after one year to upgrade again.

Could someone kindly provide some recommendations? Any sport bike that is a friendlier ride for 2+hours.

Thanks all!

Your ninja 250. I have yet to sit on a sport bike that has a more comfortable position than my 250 (for obvious reasons)...but every time a thread like this comes up, the consensus is that if you're young, the discomfort's bearable.

Also, the ex500s can be had for about the same price as the 250 (although they're ugly af) + resale's pretty consistent since it's been the same design for a very long time.

How many kms do you plan on putting on in that year? If it's around 5k, then you probably won't lose too much money when you resell/upgrade

honda cbr f4i is pretty comfortable. esp the banana seat.

+1 I toured for almost a week on the F4i last year. It was fully manageable though of course it still gets tiring being on the bike all day every day. I have the split seat.

Also just so happens that I'm selling mine ;). Let me know if you're interested ChiGGz.

I'm obviously a little biased but I honestly think the F4i strikes an amazing balance for someone wanting a SS that's also easy to ride, confidence inspiring and tourable. Storage space is also pretty good for a SS. Right now I've got the tool kit, first aid kid, jumper cables, accessory cable, tiny wet sac and extra set of gloves all tucked under the seats!

If you're buying a bike based on potential resale value, you're making a mistake, period.

Buy what wont kill you, what you can afford and what you love, in that order.

No motorcycle is an investment.

Ninja 650R
Yamaha FZ6R
Yamaha FZ6
Honda CBR f4i
Suzuki SV650
Triumph Street Triple
etc.

...all in the 600cc range and would be more comfortable than your typical SS in terms of riding position. If you really have your heart set on a supersport, then they're all pretty similar in terms of ergonomics and comfort.

In terms of resale value, the only bikes that have a ridiculous resale are any kind of Harley, retro restoration, and beginner bikes like the Ninja 250. Beyond that, I wouldn't buy a bike with resale value in mind. Get what you want and then make sure to take care of it. You certainly aren't gonna make any money or even break even with this hobby.

have done 2 over 1000kms days on mine, (Mind you I was sore but that is alot of kms) Saturday I put on put on almost 400kms with no problem other then cold when I got home.
I commute everyday on mine to work from Kitchener to Milton and love it.

It has the same power as any SS, and alot more comfortable.

The F4 is a great bike, no doubt about it. AND it has excellent usable power that is competitive for the street even now.

But give me a break that in the past 12 years it still has the same power as a new SS. That's not even plausible.

F4 and F4i are two different motorcycles. F4i has a fuel-injected engine and the bike was made between 2000 and 2006. Not sure how 2006 (even 2007) CBR600 F4i is a 12-yr-old bike? Btw, for people putting F4i on the list with Kawi 650R and other 650cc bikes. F4i is a SuperSport (SS), it is classified as SS by insurance companies, and there is no difference between '06 CBR600F4i and CBR600RR, except for the frame COLOUR and seat type - 04-06 F4i uses comfy banana seat and RR uses dual-seat config like 01-03 F4i used to have. I have Corbin banana seat on my '06 F4i and it really helps while going for longer rides.

And this is your opinion right? Because there is no facts behind it.
It weird because if you look at the stats it is the same 0-60mph and 1/4mile times as most of the new bikes?
What new 600SS is so outrageously fast that it blows away an F4i?
F4i - 0-60 = 2.89s, 1/4 mile = 10.59s

I will be the first to say on a road track yes the newer SS will take it in the corners, but I was talking about power, not track worthiness.

No facts huh? These were both the Honda's from the year 2006 as tested by Sport Rider Magazine. I also saw that the 96 CRR900RR did a slower 1/4 than the 600 you posted. Must have been one sweet 600.

CBR600RR ('06)
1/4 mile: 10.571 @ 132.48
Top Speed: 162.3

CBR600F4I ('06)
11.280 @ 122.1

LOL, if I post something as "opinion" I'll usually state it as such. And I have also ridden both bikes myself as well as the older F4. The older F4 is virtually identical except for the very nice EFI system but I will say that the F4 seat is a bit more comfy compared to the 2 piece as on the F4I. Saying the F4I is more current than the original year (99 I believe) of the design (sans EFI, but the engine layout is virtually unchanged) because it was made until 2006 is really grasping at non-existent straws.

The point of the matter is that the F4 or F4I is an excellent street going sportbike and I would choose it over a newer 600 for the power delivery alone. But just because you own one doesn't mean that the march of time and technology won't make a better or faster machine is really just obtuse wishful thinking.

I'm not on this site to argue (sarcastic silliness notwithstanding), but facts don't lie.

First off i would also recommend the CBR F4/F4i hands down one of the most comfortable Sport bikes I have ridden.

Just FYI there is nothing to my knowledge that is the same on the F4i to the RR. Well maybe besides the sticker "Honda". The frame, subframe, swing arm, engine, front forks ect all different. It's a whole different bike period.

Because it was first made in 99, adding EFI doesn't constitute a re-design.

The Ninja 250 is also a SS to many insurance companies.
As for no difference, the only differences are suspension, as is the motor, frame, swingarm, injection, and brakes. Yup, no difference.

Bear in mind that all these changes are small evolutionary changes which make the bike a better "racebike". I do like the F4I better, but to say it is the same is insane.

If your looking to get a good deal, ride it and then sell it, then the best thing would be to pick up a bike at the end of the riding season and sell it at the beginning of the next. Upgrade the end of this season, ride it all next season and sell it the beginning of the following season.

What commands the best price is condition that can be demonstrated with how well the bike was taken care of.
