Gear Suggestions for Tall/Skinny Guy

Hey peeps, I'm looking to scoop a new jacket or possibly a 1/2 piece suit, but I'm having a terrible time finding something that I think fits me well. Normally the jackets are too short, and don't even cover my belt (a lot sit above, which looks like the jacket shrunk in the drier). If I can manage to find one long enough, then it normally can fit 2 of me in it, since it fits like a garbage bag.

I've tried alpinestars, joe rocket, icon, and speed & strength. Joe Rocket generally fits way too short/wide, alpinestars fits well other than it's too short, Icon fits OK sometimes but their jackets seem to have a tendency to have too many skulls on them for my tastes, and speed and strength is the same as joe rocket for me. I have a Joe Rocket 2 piece suit that's a 46 right now and the jacket fits terribly.

I'm going to head to riders choice tomorrow to try out some dainese stuff, I'm hoping it might be a bit better.

I'm about 6'3, and 180lbs.
My chest is 44 inches. Waist and inseam is 33 inches.

Thoughts? I thought about getting a suit, since it might cover my back up a bit better (and I wouldn't mind the extra safety, I'm not a shorts/sandals kind of guy).

Thanks in advance ladies & gents.

I'm pretty much the same size and weight with the same problem. I wear a Joe Rocket Alter Ego currently but considering a leather 2 piece suit. Problem is nothing fits. Thinking a custom suit is needed. Let me know if you have any luck with Dianese.

I ended up picking up a Dainese textile jacket from Riders Choice. It is Size 52, and it fits quite well. I would give them a try, pretty much everything from them that I tried on fit really well. It's the "Racing Textile Jacket" model in Red/White.

I also ordered some size 10 Dainese Technical Sneaker shoes, so I'll post some thoughts on them when I get them.

I found a Joe Rocket jacket that looked pretty casual that fit, but I looked, and it was just cotton, so....pretty much useless in a crash.

Touring style jackets might be what you are looking for. They are usually longer (for taller people) and have lots of adjustable straps to make em tighter.

When I was at Daytona Motorsport in North York they had some black textiles that were long, and was suggested to a customer that was tall and skinny. They were also waterproof I believe with all the armor in it. Looked to post a link but Didnt see the jacket on their website, I would give em a call or check out their store.

If you want a touring type jacket that looks a bit better for your average street stuff, and not like you're heading around the world on a BMW, check out the Icon Patrol jacket. Only thing is that it's more of a shoulder season jacket I hear, quite warm even with the liner out.

Well I have the exact same problem. 6'3" really long torso and broad shoulders but fairly thin build. Usually a Large tshirt fits me pretty good, but in motorcycle jacket sizes Larges wouldn't even zip up, XLs would zip up but extremely tight and uncomfortable and most XLs wouldnt have the arm length OR would sit above my belly button.

The ICON Hooligan 2 mesh jacket in XL fit ok, but the jacket I ended up buying was a XXL Icon Accelerant. After trying on a ton of Joe Rocket and Alpine Star jackets these were the two ICON jackets where the only ones that looked ok and didn't cut off my air supply when zipped up. My only problem with the XXL jacket is that there is a tad too much stretch fabric material under the armpits and rests a little deep. Thinking about having it taken in a little at a tailor for a slightly snugger fit.

Hope this helps out.

180 lbs? You're not THAT skinny. Was expecting something like 150 lbs.

I believe Dainese has some stuff in "Tall" sizing but I'm guessing you'd have to order that stuff since I can't imagine most places carrying it. See the drop down for size here as an example:

I have a bit of a sizing issue too. My Dainese one piece suit is a 56 but it's tight as hell in upper body while loose in the *** and waist. If you're not "average" build than you're always going to have trouble without going custom.

had the same issue 6,1 160lbs torso tall long arms. Teknic was the solution. Remember a motorcycle jacket isn't going to fit like a normal jacket. It needs to be tight enough that in the event of a crash the padding is not going to move from where it's supposed to be. The lower part of the jacket where the cinch straps are rides right on my belt line.

About the same build as you. I thought the dainese stuff was just a tad short in the arms.
