For those who kept questioning the power/dominance of the BMW S1000RR, please read

I'm not understanding the last sentence here? Are you trying to be racist? Are italians in Italy really that dumb?lol Having been to both Germany (all over) and Italy many many times as I have family and friends in both, I find it funny that just talking to people in Italy garners a 'they can't engineer anything' It's mildly amusing. From the romans to modern times Italy has engineered great things, as have the Germans. We are talking about bikes here not people, so leave the ignorance elsewhere. Besides, Volkswagens are hardly engineering feats, and neither are Fiats. Each country and all other countries have some great engineering, but can also engineer some not so great things.

Having you speaking for BMW probably lowered their sales...

Needless complexity requiring solid engineering is probably the best way to describe German products, which was probably the key to the S1000rr's success. BMW didn't waste effort on a goofy boxer engines/shaft drives/assorted gizmos--they carefully improved upon a Japanese concept.

As for quality, next time you see a brand new car with a burned out tail lamp (or burning oil) tell me it's NOT an Audi or Volkswagen.

Interesting point....they scrapped their "German engineering" (Flat twins) for a 3 year long development Japanese reverse engineering exercise. Great bike, but not so German, and not so appealing, and not so dominant in race trim either.

"Manhattan keeps on making it, Brooklyn keeps on taking it, Bronx keeps creating it, and Queens keeps on faking it" ahem ahem, "Queens" representing American bikes in this case. You substitute the rest as you see fit.

Well the Honda CBR1000RR gets better fuel economy, so I'd pick that one.

LOL this guy again.

Who questioned the power of the BMW exactly?

Nobody said it didn't have a lot of Dyno HP. You are the only one that seem to think that is debatable. We all agree, it makes numbers on a machine. Nothing close to the big bikes in HP or torque but high numbers for the 1000cc class.

I think if anyone questions it, they ask why the **** is it falling apart on so many fronts? Why so many failures, **** ups and recalls? BMW is supposed to have quality control in it's automotive division so why didn't that transfer over to the motorcycles?

And honestly, comparing a BMW car to a Suzuki car is an argument? I say this because you do it in every thread.... A BMW is a better car than a Suzuki just like a Ferrari or Lambo is better than a BMW. Exotic owners laugh at BMW which are honestly a dime a dozen in Europe and not "status" like you wish they were. I own an M3 and don't think of it as anything other than a mid range coupe.

Sorry about your inferiority complex and need to rant about a material good you purchased that you think makes up for it. It's a motorcycle, worth about as much as a POS KIA car.

Let people buy what they want. Ride what you want. Don't you get that yet?

Thats like saying the m3 is better than a 1m coupe because it has a higher hp # and is more expensive and thus prestigious.. They hit 60mph at about the same time and a 1m will eat an m3 alive on a track.

While its a cool bike, it has pros and cons just like any other motor vehicle.

Cute language from the press release:

The problem may also cause the engine to leak oil directly in front of the rear wheel, potentially reducing traction.

... yeah right, potentially... legal word-smithing at its finest.

Debating which has more power or agility is a great pissing contest. The BMW has certainly ****** further in the power criteria.

But debating what criteria is the best ultimate criteria is like having a pissing contest for pissing contests!

If comfort is your thing, or power, or pose down cache, or affordability, or aesthetics, they are all valuable pissing contests, but each person weighs their criteria differently.

Raw HP doesn't seem to be a high priority factor for most people, as even those that do care about it don't exploit it. I have been spanked by duct taped 8 year old R6s around a track when I had a 50HP advantage. I certainly cannot extract the peak HP out of any bike around TMP (let's say), because I can't get up to 300kph! And down low out of the turns, so much is about gearing, when playing around with 60HP or so! Remember HP and torque are progressive, and if you aren't revving the BMW to near redline, you ain't tapping that HP figure you're claiming.

Straight line roll on, on the highway....yes you win. Bragging rights over an ice cap...you win there too. How many people give a toss...you lost that one. But I hear it is a comfy commuter....that's probably a criteria right up there with raw power.

With all that power and German-ocity I truly do wonder why in SBK they have struggled so badly and got spanked by the little Italian outfit that could....Aprilia. Down on power, and yet, well you know. In the end, it took an Italian to extract the best out of that German bike too! Fancy that! Maybe Melandri brought a few ponies over with him.

+1 Are we speaking of melandri himself here? Or all the little Italian mechanics he brought with him from yamaha to spruce up that bike as BMW got rid of their German mechs? lol

+2....I was only referring to Melandri but you augmented that point quite nicely!
