Follow Along: Milton to Vancouver on an R6

Hey Geoff it was good to see you on top of Lake superior on the TCH. I'm home now, have a good ride.

^ this thread reminds me of your trip to Cali Wheelieboy.

I wish I had the time to do a trip like this... hopefully one day once the kids are a little older.
Have a great time and ride safe, I look forward to the updates and pictures.
Cheers

This is my first time doing over 1000km in one trip. It isn't that bad with the gell seat and throttle lock I can lean back and stretch for a few seconds.

Tuesday was the longest day yet, 12.5 hours on the road.
I am at familys untill tomorrow morning then I set out to bad lands.

Haven't really had a superslab until I got into north dakota and it was only about 100miles from my destination.

I will post some pix soon I promise been busy visiting and doin stuff around here. In the process of updating my blog once I finnish that I will update here aswell

Day 1: Milton - Sault Ste Marie

Today was a good day. Left home at 11am a little later than planned but thats understandable when up partying until 4am.. :P

Weather was beautifull other than a 30second downpour just south of Sudbury.
Stopped for a quick break at the Blind River welcome center (was closed) and had a meal bar because i was starving. I noticed the blind river sign and rode my bike up to the side of it and snapped a pic.

While riding I had my camera around my neck and took a few shots while riding some turned out well.

I reached the Sault at about 7:30pm. Got a motel room and went to swiss chalet for dinner. Ordered a double leg dinner and they gave me 3 legs because the chicken was small (looked decent size to me) so i have breakfast for tomorrow.

Tomorrow I head off to Thunder Bay where I have my first couch surfing host.

untill tomorrow,
Geoff

Day 2: Sault Ste Marie to Thunder Bay

Set out at 7:30am on Monday morning to head to Thunder Bay. It was a good day, about 9 hours riding 699km.
Stopped at a couple look out points and provintial parks.

Arrived in Thunder Bay about 5:30pm. at my first Couch Surfing Host's place. Richard, had a pot of chili ready for me when I arrived and made Bacon and eggs for me in the morning. We chatted a little and took his dog Oliver for a walk around the block. One of Richards favorite places is Glacier National Park in Montana which is one of the places I will be visiting throught my trip.

Day 3: Thunder Bay to Cooperstown, North Dakota

Set out at 9am (Eastern Time) Daily total - 874km.
Crossed the border to USA at Pigeon Road Border Crossing around 9am (Central Time). Got pulled into secondary, they just asked me a few questions and checked out my bike and sent me on my way, no unpacking or and searching so was a pretty smooth sailing cross over.
I stopped at Two Harbors and took some pictures of the light house, I wanted to take my bike all the way out on to the boardwalk by the light house but didn't think it would be a good idea with all the people around.
Was a very long day with 12.5 hrs on the road reaching my cousin's house in Cooperstown, ND around 8:30 (Central Time). Their dogs Rip and Spook greated me like they never forgot me from when I was there back in '09.

Day 4: First day in North Dakota with Family

Slept in untill about 9:30am had a dish for breakfast called Egg Bake that was very tasty.
My cousin Nick came by in his Polaris Ranger RZR (Razer). We took a cruise around in the Razer and visited some family around town. My other Cousin came on a borrowed Harley to say hello. Then we went to the local Country Club Golf Course in Cooper for some Steaks and Chops with the fam.
Then Nick and I went to Hanaford (a local town) for some Fourth of July fireworks, bon fire and beer (water beer...lol)

Brownies Hostel in Browning , just east of Montanas Glacier Ntnl Pk, cheap and a good place to spend the night before you check out the park, bear spray & t-shirts accross the road!

Yesterday went well, left my cousins place in North Dakota at 930am(central time), got to the badlands around 4pm(Mountain Time). The badlands is absolutely stunning, and the road there is great too! I got just past half way and saw a sign that said campground this way. So I turned, to my suprise it was a dirt road. Traveled 12miles down this dirt road and found a decent campground that you just pick a spot throw your tent up and away you go. Went for a little hike up a bit of a hill.
Woke up at 5am this morning, packed and on the road by 6. Back down the 12mile dirt road and the badlands road to I-90. Got to the black hills around 9 had breakfast at mc yuks and set off to rushmore and the black hills roads. The roads there are amazing. Once I spent about an hour and a half I decided to take another runn through US-16a (main road through black hills), about half way my bike decided to go all wonky and the RPMs go really high and drop, the gage goes blank. I tried pushing it down the hill and bump starting it but no luck. So I rolled down the hill until it went up hill and I stopped (this was at 12:30). No cell service. I pulled my tool kit out and pulled the seat off to see if it was the battery. So was sitting there untill 1:30 (100+ bikes, 150+cars go by in this time) before some one stops to see if I am ok. Then 10 min later the Sheriff drove by and I waved him down. He got dispatch to call AAA and get me a tow. Tow Truck shows up around 3pm. Get to Black Hills Powersports in Rapid City about 4. Turns out the stator I changed in december bunt out again. And the don't have one in stock so I have to wait here in a hotel until tuesday.

Cheers,
Geoff

That sucks! All that I can suggest now is to keep a positive atitude, the adventure has begun.

Kinda dissapointing no one pulled over, especially with your seat off.

If you did'nt know already, put your helmet on the ground, that's a signal that you could use a hand.

Yeah, make the most of it, take it in stride. See what Rapid City has to offer!

Thanks guys, I took a stroll around lastnight didn't seem to have much of anything going on.

I did have my helmet on the side of the road.

As they say everything happens for a reason and I should try to make lemonade from these rotten lemons... lol.

Cheers,
Geoff

Sounds like a good trip so far and the minor hick-up with your bike will add to your adventure! Hopefully your back up and running early Tuesday. Cheers

Mike! Glad to hear you got everything ready! You were only a couple days behind me!

Beartooth was awesome! Ill post pix and update my blog and this thread once I get to a computer. My cousin hasn't been home and the computer here is locked. Hopefully tomorrow or the next day I will be able to get on the computer and update.

Cheers,
Geoff

Trip got cut short, hit a deer on hwy 1 in chase just east of kamloops. I'm all good other than my right hand is broken. Chase RCMP say my bike is totaled (hit deer head on).

Was a good go, probably going to get a flight home tonight, or tomorrow.
:(

Cheers,
Geoff
