FmL... Bike been stuck in the shop...need help....

Hey guys,

I am kind of stuck in a situation here. I was riding my bike and then the bike died on me. So I brought the bike to a shop. The shop told me that my 07 GSXR 600 needs a stator. Now here is the problem the stator is out of stock from their aftermarket supplier. and the OEM stator is $350 plus taxes.

Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a after market stator so my bike can be back on the road again without paying over 500 in parts and labour?

Try ebay and get them to overnight/express ship it and just download a service manual and intall it yourself

Have you checked with any of the motorcycle wreckers for the part?

a wrecker should have a stator. Those things never go and survive crashes. Call a few bike wreckers prolly 100 bucks

Stators can be fried if the stars are in the right alignment. All you need is a bad R/R or wires shorting to ground and.....sniff.sniff.....burnt toast.

It's actually a common issue with the 06/07 600/750's.
From what I understand, the price difference between OEM and A/M is minimal..
The real question is, which one is better quality?

OP, I would suggest that you go here and get opinions from people that went through the same thing.
BTW... How many KM's are on the bike?

Sorry to hear your bad luck.

Stators can be rewound (rebuilt)!
It is commonly done. As a side note, it is somewhat common to have a stator rewound so thar it produces more amps output for bikes that might need more electric power to run added accessories.
This can be done for any bike as I understand it as told to me by a local owner of a small shop (not in your area unfortunately).
Bike/automotive/industrial alternator/electric motor shops can do this easily.

You would have to ask to find out price and the time required. The bike shop that has your bike should be able to help you with this.

I've dealt with Electrosport for stators in the past and they build top shelf stuff... unfortunately they don't have a stator for your model. They do have a diagnostics page which may help to confirm what's wrong (if you have any doubt with the shop you're bike is at). The job is relatively simple. Source a stator then sit down, do it yourself, save money, and learn something new... win-win!

If I were in this situation, I would go with OEM.
350 isn't bad for a new stator.
Or I would have the original stator rewound.
 
How many kilometres does your bike have? I know of two guys who had there stator burn out on there 06/07 600. They just bought aftermarket ones from ebay and they seem to be better quality then oem.

I thought you just compared an electrical component to a brake disk?
But I must be mistaken.
If your comparison goes that far, why would you ever buy a Suzuki?

I MEANT to say stator (and have fixed the post) but had the rotor on the crankshaft in my mind.
