First Ride 2014

For me it has more to do with not wanting to have to wait for the bus (and ride the bus with its huge backpack wearing morons and the ladies with SUV sized strollers blocking the doors or the two seat using asswipes.) if I can avoid it rather than just wanting to ride.

Plus I didn't notice any salt or sand on the ground where I rode (down Jane)

Probably only going to use it when it's warmish to get to and from work for now.

Hope Ontario has a good ride. Chilling at the bottom of Mt. Mansfield, VT waiting for the fog to clear a bit so I can climb and ski the peak. Over a foot of snow overnight :)

Same here, I am not in the downtown core, WAY too much road salt and sand need at least a few days at +10 and some heavy rain to wash the roads clear. Heck on my commute I am still passing snowbanks that they had to use a snow blower on and they are still 6 - 8' tall!! Plus one intersection I come upon you have to stop at least 15' behind the line or risk sliding on the sand right through the stop sign..lol

It will still be a few wekks before I even think about going up and putting the battery in They yard where my storage unit is still has about 8" of snow on the plowed portions.

We had a light dusting in northern Durham region and Thornhill this morning plus calling for 5Cm plus freezing rain for tonight..
 
My bet is that April 1 will be the start of the riding season for many on here......according to the long-range forecast, it will be sunny, high of 12C after a couple of rainy days to clean the roads. Only problem is it's a Tuesday.....sick days anyone?

Just be super careful if you are out. Even though the roads look clear, there is a lot of stuff still there - plus Ontario uses chemicals, not just salt fort the ice and snow and much of that has not washed off the roads yet....

Well, there are also a lot of people that have not seen a motorcycle out on the street since Oct, to me thats just a big hazard on its own.

For higher risk-mitigation take the bus.
 
Took my bike off insurance a week ago and now I regret it just for this one day! D:

Probably won't have another one for a couple months :<

See, I don't really get this statement since some people don't see motorcyclist in the summer too. Do you know why? They aren't paying attention to the road. If a safe driver does the proper shoulder checks (l,R,l) regardless if you're expecting the rider or not- you'll see him/her.
 
Saw 2 bikes out yesterday, sorta the alpha / omega of the bike world, the first was a KLR at Brock and Bayly, all dirt and milk carton top box and the other on King at Stevenson stretched swing arm shiny Hayabusa

Best part about that is, they do a double take and just look at each other and are like.... "nah.... couldn't be, it's too cold for bikes to be out". haha :D
 
I was out for the morning on March 11, the last nice sunny +8 day before the snow storm. It was sort of out of necessity to get a safety done and the weather cooperated better than I could ever have expected. It felt incredible to be out.

Enough rain had come to clean the roads somewhat prior but you still have to be mindful of the pooled water from melting snow banks. The bike definitely needed a good wash when I got home.
 
I was out Friday evening to get a feel for the roads. I was so happy and wanted to hear my bike roar...forgetting what 1st gear goes to lol
 
I rode from Pickering to Beamsville and back on Saturday. I was nice and toasty under my layers: Bristol neck gaiter, Joe Rocket King Cruiser jacket, Bristol Chaps, Frogg Toggs all over, and waterproof glove covers. Oh yeah, and heated grips :)
