I dont block people I disagree with. I block a couple obstinate individuals that are clearly driven by beliefs not science. Mainly because you cant have a rational discussion with an irrational person.
Because someone don't agree with your thoughts don't make that person irrational, I can quote this cause i know i'm one of the people he has blocked...lol

What makes someone irrational is a completely and utter unwillingness to change ones viewpoints in the face of facts.

I know you and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, but we can have a rational discussion despite that, and you seem willing to change your mind when presented with facts. IE I'm pretty sure you were iffy on the whole vaccine thing, but in the face of facts and realities, you went ahead and got it.

That's rational IMHO.

Others are irrational and only want to believe things that fit their preconceived notions. Reality, facts, be damned.

I got the vaccine for a few good reasons, Hoping to get the second before the date they have booked. It would be great for the people waiting for the second shots to get the dates pushed up

Takes a pretty thin skinned person to block someone on an internet forum, I did block a couple people for a couple days and kept posting i blocked them just to be a troll i guess, but i did unblock the people

Confucius he say ...life too short to deal with dickheads.

Not you by the way.

Nah just pass over the post and read the next, Some times you need that blocked person post to connect the dots.

There comes a point where it's beneficial to ones mental health to just say "Yeah, I choose not to deal with this anymore".

I can tactfully disagree with someone and debate them meaningfully, tactfully, and rationally until I'm blue in the face. Hell, all here have probably seen that happen a few times lol.

But there comes a time when you realize you're either either dealing with a troll, or someone who is so irrational that there is no meaningful discussion possible that, well, yeah...

All of South America is suffering from the spread of variants from Brazil. This is why it’s a global issue. Getting control of the variants we have with vaccines that treat them is all well and good unless some other countries with an out of control infection spread start developing their own variants that our vaccines aren’t as effective at treating.

All the countries around India must be worrying right now. Pakistan is petrified according to news reports.

The waiving of patent rights will help with this, only the pharmaceutical companies and any countries (Germany) with a large corporate pharmaceutical presence disagree.
Waiving intellectual property rights is a tough pill to swallow. What do you think this would accomplish?

Price isn’t the issue, volume is. Current producers have virtually unlimited financial resources to expand production, they are doing that as fast as possible, it’s not like a backyard operation could spin up faster and safer just because the IP becomes royalty free.

Too easy to blame the anti mask freedumb crowd. Thier numbers are relatively small. The hotspots like Peel are the real problem. The federal and provincial governments have totally failed to control the hotspot populations.
They don't want to hurt thier feelings.
I get worried when I hear “Govt control”. I’m more in favour of increased personal responsibility, along with real penalties for bad behaviour - as opposed to locking down a complete population because of the deed of a few.

For example, lock down Peel, lock down Ottawa, close Queens U. Close the borders to those places like China did to Wuhan.

My community has managed to behave respectfully with respect to rules and guidance, we have very low numbers. I’m tired of suffering locked down because of the cavalier attitude displayed by some communities.

I had to take my elderly parents for vax2 yesterday. I was stuck on the QEW so I headed up to the 403 on Hurontario, I counted 1 bus shelter with 10 people huddled inside - a couple without masks. A few more bus stops had a dozen people in close quarters, dozens of mall cars with 4-5 kids driving around.

I don’t see that crap where I live.

Even the threat of it meant that access to cipro was enhanced during the SARS crisis. Even that might have an effect here. Regardless, there’s idle plant around the world that could manufacture vaccine if IP was shared. That’s not a price issue, it’s breaking a monopoly.

I don’t think that’s the case. If there was production facilities available, profit motive for existing vaccine makers would have them working. There simply are no more places to produce. Canada has one ready at NRC, it would take 2 years to gear it up then certify it for production.

Monopoly? There are AZ, Phizer, Moderna , Covashield, SinoChina and the Russian govt all producing Vaccines.

Monopoly is one source protected from competition.

By definition a patent grants a company a monopoly for a set period. Pfizer stands to make $39 billion extra due to hesitancy over the AZ vaccine. I’m fairly certain money is an issue.

That’s not a monopoly, that’s a patent. A monopoly is protection from competition. There are plenty of competitors. If Phizer bought out Moderna, AZ, Sino and Covashield you would have a monopoly.

Its a free market. Get a few buddies together, invest a few billion and come up with a vaccine and you have unrestricted access to the market.

Talk about IP free vaccines is just socialists yelling from a soapbox. There is no feasible benefit to anyone.

Hmm odd..the patents I am named on as an inventor are “limited monopolies to use the ip for a period of 20 years“. Sounds like a monopoly to me. That’s what the protection from competitors gets you.

Take away that protection and others can manufacture and provide that item without fear of legal repercussions. Also, if it doesn’t work...tell me how come generic drugs are cheaper (and therefore more widely available to poorer nations) than the originals?

There has to be available plant around the world that can be brought online to make these things if they are allowed to outside the control of a handful of pharmaceutical companies.

Theres a greater good here that transcends a few companies getting fabulously wealthy from a global health crisis.

Generic drugs are a different story. Get the recipe and materials then you could make most of them at home.

The situation with vaccines is ramping production is complex and takes time. If copying and producing was easy, countries like that do not honour international property rights would be pumping copy vaccines out by the tanker load.

Your monopoly imbedded in your patent on mousetraps restricts others from using your invention, not from inventing and producing a better mousetrap.
