earphones while riding?

Yup.

OP good earphones go in the ear - some a fair way Etymotics - sound is spectacular inside a helmet but you have to pay for quality - $50++
Earbuds are generally junk and won't stay in,
Even with earphones I find a thin Oxford balaclava keeps them nicely sealed for good bass response and making helmet on or off easy..

I like a set that has a stop/start/skip button on the cord and there are some now that are fully modular so if one part of the cord etc breaks you can buy just that section

I use Ultimate Ears i5s - this series is designed for pro musicians who need both sound protection yet hear the music.
The offer about the same helmet noise suppression as ear plugs 26db or so and the sound is superb

Yes, I am... What's your excuse?
If it's an O ring or X ring chain, you NEVER need to lube the chain. That's the point in spending the extra money because the X or O ring keep the lube inside the chain. Therefore negating the need to "lube" the chain.

:hello1:

I always wear earbuds when I ride. I say it can't be an issue because your recommended to wear earplugs when on a motorcycle, I just try to set it at a volume where I can hear the music but still here some louder surrounding sounds, just in case of any emergency vehicle activity.

I've also seen people as an alternative to earbuds place those flat headphones that clip behind your ear behind the side padding of their helmets, but I would think you would hear less music and more street noise that way.

Just make sure that if u decide to play your music loud, make sure its a good track cuz if some lousy cager takes u out the last song you want to be listening to cant be "dont worry be happy" or some s*#t like that :)

I was so use to doing it here I didnt give it a second thought. I got a ticket for it in spain mallorca though.

I believe it is illegal to wear headphones in a car.
Why would it not be illegal on a bike.
And besides, there are important audio cues you need to hear when on your motorcycle.
I drive in heavy traffic on a daily basis. I couldn't risk the extra danger.

Headphones are not illegal in a car. Its called handsfree. I use them to answer my phone so I dont have to touch my phone.

If that were true, deaf people wouldn't have drivers licenses.

That is why there are lights. Visual cues. You should be watching around you. Mirrors etc. Besides, I have moderate hearing loss, ride and drive around with my headphones in and I dont have a problem so why should you?

There is no law that specifically prohibits the use of ear buds / headphones (not that I'm aware of at least), but it can become a factor in an unsafe driving conviction.

If you choose to wear headphones, don't drown out vehicle or road noise, & don't let it reduce your ability to safely operate your vehicle. Don't make a case for the Ontario government to pass another law.

Im always jammin dubstep while I ride! Iv been stoped by cops and have had no issue.
ps no matter how loud my Iphone is I can always hear sit round mw still

I rarely ride without wearing my etymotics (w earplug tips), because they also double as earplugs and drown out most of the wind noise. I can still hear most sounds on the road as well as my tunes, and I'm far less fatigued afterwards than going without. I've never been stopped or hassled by the cops for it.

Seriously, there are like a billion threads every year about this.

It's only illegal if you have both buds in. If you have 1 bud in 1 ear, that is considered legal.

... It's illegal to have headphones on (over the head) or earphones in both ears in a car... Does that differ for a bike? o.O

Where do you people come up with this stuff? Try reading the law - it's called the Highway Traffic Act. You'll find nothing prohibiting the use of one, two, or more earphones.

After living briefly in California, I had the mentality that it was illegal here too ( it's legal to only have 1 bud in ). I'm sure if you were charged with a careless driving charge a judge wouldn't look too fondly about riding a motorcycle wearing headphones. It may not be against the law, however it can still be distracting and could sway the judge in a negative direction.

I actually got pulled over yesterday and had on earphone on. The cop asked me to remove my helmet, but did not say anything about the earphone...

Same..got pulled over on Sunday by an unmarked SUV (due to a bit of a stupid move on my part). I had my headphones in and the cop told me it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but wasn't illegal. He told me to make sure I could hear sirens etc, which I obviously could as I heard his. Didn't give me a ticket for anything but was my spring wake-up call to not be a bonehead :)

Been pulled over as well, and I don't know if they noticed but no big deal. If both headphones are a bit of a problem for peeps. just try one earphone. Good idea to keep an ear out for any funny engine noise while riding. :)

I bought some ear buds about 3-years back from The Source; they look/feel like ear-plug material, but they've got a small passage down the center which is connected to the speaker.

They've been amazing, as they basically work just like ear-plugs: While riding > 80km/h I can actually hear better with them IN, since they block all the wind noise out. I don't play the volume very loudly; just enough to hear the music, that way I can still hear everything.

While not recommended, it is not illegal to wear headphones while either driving a car, or riding a motorcycle. There was a proposal to outlaw having earphones on both ears, in the first draft of the same law that banned using hand-held cell phones, messing with your GPS, etc.. It was dropped, prior to it becoming law.

Really? When I lived there I actually told cops (pulled over twice) to stop talking until I could get the helmet off and the earphones out. No issue. When I would go back on base the guards knew I had them in and they are strict saftety warriors too, no issue. Is this a new law?

Came out in 2004, so not too new.

(c) A person engaged in the operation of refuse collection equipment who is wearing a safety headset or safety earplugs.

(d) A person wearing personal hearing protectors in the form of earplugs or molds that are specifically designed to attenuate injurious noise levels.
