As you know my bike was stolen from my condo garage. I will be buying a new bike and my sickness of Japanese bikes have left me leaning on the 848 ducati 2009-2012.

As a result of the recent theft in the building, I have mitigated any potentials issues by 1) raising this concern to the board of the condo and 2) renting out my parking space to another vehicle that will be parked in-front of my bike. 3) I will ensure that my insurance policy will be valid enough to cover the full cost of the vehicle or replacement if this is to occur again.

I am in the market for a 848 ducati from what I gather

2009: 9,000-9,500 (mods include teri exhaust, scorpio alarm, fender eliminator, integrated signals)
2010: 10,000
2011: 11,000

Is this the correct prices? I am leaning towards one in white or red. With tasteful mods. Such as teri exhaust, alarm, eliminator etc. I see a lot of people asking for ridiculous prices and just sitting on the bike. People clearly dont understand the second hand market. If someone is familiar with the prices I would be interested in knowing more on what is a correct price to pay.

If anyone can help facilitate a deal which would include checking out the bike etc i would be greatful. Given that I dont have any means of transport at the moment or much free time i would be very greatful and can offer a finders/ faciliators fee as well.

Those prices seem to be in line with what most dealers etc are asking.
If you're going used, check the mileage as well, as the valve checks on twins are usually pricey ($6-800) 'cause the motor needs to be rotated to reach the rear cylinder.

When you are buying a Ducati you are not just buying a motorcycle. You are buying a piece of ART.
Crude and vulgar aftermarket mods tend to ruin the grace of the machine and depreciate its value.

My advice: pick the one closest to OEM specs (Termi pipes are OK) and with the least mileage. Save yourself time on getting rid of the mods you are being passed on by the previous owner.
You are meant to make that special bond with the bike. Why bond with something which is no longer considered an art?

Really? Ive had 12K and 24K services performed by an authorized dealer and the entire service didn't cost that much let alone just valve check.

Agreed and that applies to any bike regardless of brand.

Slayer, good luck with your search and all things related.

My experience with the used market is that you can expect to pay around 5-15% below the asking price on ANY private ad, as long as it does not say that the price is "firm".

When I sold my fiancee's ninja two days ago I would NOT entertain any low-ball offers, or negotiate via email. If people wanted to negotiate, they had to come see the bike first, THEN throw me an offer below my asking price.

I sold it for 8% lower than it was listed.

Buddy has Duc 848 Evo......what a stunning bike that is.

If you are buying an 848 I would recomend you purchase the evo (2011+) those have the Brembo mono blocks, steering damper mount, and I little bit more hp.

Will your insurance company pay for a new bike if the person that you "rented" your spot out, smacks into the 848? Just a thought...

Just a word of advice, that guy selling the Duc is a curbsider, i have purchased a bike off him. These bikes he is selling are theft recovery and he buys them at an auction for dirt cheap, and resells them.. this is why the UVIP will have:

First owner..then..Insurance..then..Auction..then..Him so he will tell you that he is 2nd owner which is correct but he doesn't ride these motorcycles (saying that he has to go for surgery) so technically if you purchase this bike you will be the 2nd owner. Now the bike I purchased has had no issues as it's practically brand new..i did notice that it was touched up here and there..but nothing serious.

So just a heads up...if you are okay to do that. Also another important thing is that he will NOT be flexible on the bill of sale..since he is doing this to make a profit (which is illegal) and so the ministry doesn't catch up with him. So be prepared to pay another $400+ on the registration for it. Good luck

What exactly did he do that's illegal? Doesn't car dealers do the same thing...buy cars at auction and sells them after?

Info at the bottom of my previous post, I guess it doesn't matter since they say: OMVIC has no jurisdiction over private sales, manufacturers or independent repair facilities...

Just a heads up I guess to anyone buying off him I guess..

My friend got caught buying and re-selling few months ago. He got a warning from the ministry. He didn't buy from auctions but he just bought off kijiji and resold for higher. Now he can't buy another vehicle for the remainder of the year. You MUST state your shop or dealer name in the ad in order to buy and resell. Maximum ownership transfers as a private person you can do in one year is 5 and when he exceeded that they became suspicious and contacted him.
