Dual Sport or dedicated off-roader???

See if you can find Shirley - pretty sure she is on here and she has one. She's a motorcycle instructor and loves hers.
I'd stick with the GS frankly.
It's a real good urban bike that you can go on the mild off road you want to do.

...
The vstrom or similar depending on the riders intent can be the bike they will never get off..
...

Tell me about it.. I did over 57,000 km on my 2006 Dl650 V-Strom Last year. I've done less this year (only just over 39,000 km) since my GF is new to riding her own bike.

V-Tom,
Do you know of any riders clubs that get together frequently and head to the bush? Too many of these other meets are a bunch of dudes looking at the their accordian bags and spit shining their bikes with diapers.

Looking to see if there are some frequent hwy to trail riders out there..

I know that the Ganaraska Forest is a well known destination for off road riding. Some friends of mine are there on a regular basis and I am sure there are some groups doing so. You might want to ask on ADVrider in the Canadian section as it is pretty active and lots of people there doing lots of off-road and adventure riding.

Also v-tom.. are you setup with heat on your bike? Do you ride late into the season?

I generally ride until there is snow on my roads. My biggest issue for winter riding is that I live north and east of Newmarket. If Barrie gets two feet of snow il get a foot and often there is nothing a few km south of me. I have to think in terms that it might be snow on my way home even if its nice in the morning. I did get "stuck" in snow drifts a few times and would rather avoid that. (It's hard to push a tall bike while sitting on it.) I dont ever really put my bike away. I have heated grips on my old bike and (without wearing any heated gear ride down to -16c once on a one hour commute. That was pushing it for me with using only fleece under my riding suit.

I have heated grips for my 2012 but haven't got around to installing them yet, I might this week. My gf picked up a heated jacket at GP Bike a month or two ago and since the deal was so good I did the same in October. I works really well under my riding suit and I am sure all-day rides in below freezing temps will be no issue.
