Data recovery...

Most likely the company's IT department has set it up in a way which protects you, from behind the scenes. As long as your security patches are up to date, most trouble these days comes from social attacks, emails presenting themselves as fake information and having you click on link or document.

We do have a big security section that looks after us yes. I’m also savvy enough not to click on weird links or open attachments willy nilly.

Care to keep being more vague about what you mean... go on...

If you`re not happy with the question that's your problem. :)

I disagree, tough cookies.

Thing is... power comes on.
To a point.
Screen remains black and she dont make any of the little noises she used to...
I should perhaps mention that the last time I started her up she made an odd grinding noise... but it stopped and everything was fine.
The next time I turned her one.... No joy.
With my limited knowledge I'm figuring it's the HD, but... who knows?

If you are not happy with my answer ....well that's on you..no cookies! :ROFLMAO:

PC should be able to post (boot sequence/ram/cpu/) without a HD.

There are various things you can do to trouble shoot laptop startup, google should give you a few quick things to try.

Clean your fan if it has one because yes, if your Hard drive made nasty noises it's toast.

Toast?
I'll get the raspberry jam out.. Lol

Thanks all for the ideas...
I'll dig into it later once I have some spare time.
Tonight is being spent on swapping out levers on a friends fs800

OP, are you able to boot into the BIOS screen?
esc or F2 during boot
then see if the system is seeing the HDD

if the drive is toast it will probably not be reported
if you can't boot to the BIOS, you may have a board issue

Screen remains black.
Blinky light on the shift key blinks.
Sounds like the fan is running, but that's it.

To quote Bones from Star Trek...
"He's dead Jim"

In any case.... Went out after changing the levers on the fs800 and dropped $900 on a new machine.
