Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

I had a similar, spiced wheat beer made in Ontario from Bad Apple Brewing near Bayfield. They use cardamom and with a low ABV it’s a very nice summer beer. Check them out if you are ever on the West Coast of Ontario.

Went to crooked mile brewing company in Almonte today. Nice selection of beers there. Had a flight of their English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh beers. An English IPA, Welsh best bitter, Irish red ale and a Scottish something or other that I can’t remember because Hadrian's wall. All really good. For anyone on a bike, it’s just by Equator coffee roasters which has some of the best coffee I’ve tasted anywhere. They also have pretty amazing food made in house too. Almonte is a decent place for getting to the Lanark Highlands and Calabogie etc if you’re near Ottawa. Also, if you didn’t know, it’s the birthplace of James Naismith the inventor of the game of basketball.

Checked out the new brewery/brewpub Avling.

Beers were all well executed, but nothing really blew my mind other than the cherry sour.

The food is very upscale, all made fresh and is absolutely delicious. ...the smoked crusty bread is incredible.

For the beers, I had:

Brevis Cherry Sour/Saison ...a winner
Avling IPA
Bright Classi Pils ...well executed
Vibrant Harvest Saison
Galette Farmhouse
Esperta Belgian IPA ...the wife's fave

Also had the new Muddy York "Ricky's Refresher Strawberry/Lime Berliner.

VERY good and lower ABV so you could drink a ton of them on a hot summer afternoon.

I'm digging the lower ABV beers these days too.
Finally made it out to Charlotteville Brewing located between Simcoe and Port Rowan on Lake Erie.
Of all 5 beers available to sample, only 1 was above 5% (the English-style Bitter that was 5.6%). Everything else was below 5%.

For Bitter or Worse - English Bitter
Potty Mouth - Nitro poert with cacao and berries
Pie in the Eye - Strawberry Rhubarb Hibiscus wheat
Local 519 - Pale ale

The brewery itself is in an old barn, that was actually originally located in Ilderton, ON, dismantled and re-assembled on the current site.
The couple that own it are super-friendly and very hard working. And they make a mean grilled cheese (made with local cheese) that comes with chips and pickles for $4.25!

But then of course, I stopped by one of my regular local spots - Barncat Artisan Ales and picked up bunch of their Triple the Juice IPA, weighing in at a whopping 10.5%. I'll update once I've tried it.

Cheers

Rob

I'll pass your comments to my daughter
she and the BF run the kitchen at Avling

Were you in Kingston?

Yeah, I was on the road last week and spent the evening sipping on a few watching the season opener down at the bar of the Ambassador Hotel.

Lol. Round the corner from my house. Did you play on the water slides?

Stone city has a good stout.

Brooks Brewing - Peanut Buddy Porter.
Like liquid peanut butter and coffee.
Doesn't sound like it works, but it was FANTASTIC!

Southern Tier - Pumpking pumpkin ale.

Southern Tier - Warlock Pumpkin Imp. Stout

Mikkeller "Beer Geek - Vanilla Shake"
Absolutely amazing.

Evil Twin - Imperial Wedding Cake Break Porter
Not a fan. Watery, odd flavour and an off putting aroma of marzipan and almonds from the wedding cake(s) that were thrown into the boil.

Omnipollo "Karpologi" - Pineapple peach passion candy sour.

Friend brought it back from his trip to Denmark.

Very light abv at 3.5%, and every flavor of fruit came through strong.

Was very very good.

Anyone hitting the Red House Cask Day at Red House in Kingston?

I'm considering.
