Coverage in the USA

Just want to see if I need ay extra coverage.

My understanding is that my M/C policy covers liability for what I hit and damages to my bike (Full coverage). Injuries to me are covered by the medical portion of the policy. However if I have a non motorcycle accident (ie Fall down stairs) or get sick (Appendix etc) OHIP covers me at Ontario rates. If the hospital I end up in charges more than the OHIP rates I am liable for the difference. Blue Cross or an equal covers that.

Did I get it right or do I need something else.

Yes you need extra health insurance. I have purchased it through CAA specifically for that purpose. Check your blue cross coverage.

If you don't have CAA, you can buy medical insurance through most financial institutions. Read the fine print. You may have to pay for medical costs upfront, and then submit receipts for reimbursement.

We go riding down to the states all the time, and always get extra coverage from CAA.
Its very inexpensive and worth every penny if something goes wrong.

I believe your bike/auto policy should cover you up to your Ontario limits if involved in a motor-vehicle collision.

If you are injured in a non-motor-vehicle accident, you are correct that you are only covered by OHIP up to the maximum amount set by the plan for a given procedure. Since a comparable medical procedure in the US tends to cost a lot more in Canada, this could be fairly substantial. You can buy temporary Travel insurance to cover you for the difference. I don't have much experience with the quoting, but Mondial Assistance can quote you from their website:
