Cover bike when parking?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how many of you toss a cover on your bike when you ride your bike to work. Do you think it's a good/bad idea?

I used to park with a few other bikes, but it looks like all those riders either moved parking places, or stopped riding to work. I've been trying to find another location that has a few bikes there around my work, but so far haven't been lucky.

My work has a small bike parking area, so I don't park on the street but I still cover it.
 
i work in a mall. and i park ride outside my store. where i can see my bike the entire time. so no cover for me.
 
I never did it because it's a hassle for me and plus it would stop the rain from washing the bike for me. Also it was necessary to impress colleagues with how I rolled at the time. However, in certain areas with high pedestrian traffic, I can see a number of reasons for doing so. One being simply to discourage random passers by from sitting on the bike.
 
Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I don't cover my bike until it's cooled off. Maybe condensation is a non-issue, but I was worried about it.
 
I've thought about this, but as Fransky mentions above; I don't do it because of the exhaust pipe temperature. Would need to cool off, then go out and cover it.

can be handy if there is construction downtown or nearby. I hardly see it downto
 
I'm always reluctant to put a cover on a bike outdoors due to potential wind. I cover mine for dust in the garage over the winter, but have seen some pictures of one bike with a cover next to 20 others, cover acted like a sail and played dominoes on the others. Shed a single tear seeing that picture...
 
I don't know that I've ever seen a bike parked at a place of work or school covered up for the work/school day.

If I did I'd think "that's a strange place to store a bike" or "the owner of that thing has OCD issues..."
 
i see it every day downtown. i dont do it personally
 
Well seeing I have already had one GEARS cover stolen, (the nice fabric cruiser one, not the poly type), I wouldn't do it. Besides I ark right where I can see bike all day. One day they came to me and advised I might want to close shop windows as they were doing so ashpalt cutting, (they didn't want dust getying into shop). SO I opened the double doors that lead into a shared hallway, (I am only here all day). Pulled the bike inside hall and closed the doors..lol
 
I always cover my bike at work. I don't like having it bake in the sun for 10 hours a day. It's a 2002 with 90000kms on it. Paint,brake lines, seat and plastic still looks like new......

Thats my reasoning too. I know that when I'm out riding, the machine is exposed to UV but I'd rather not let that happen if it's just sitting in a parking lot.
