cant fight a world war, especially one that's over, with a tummy ache.

oy vey....
Especially not one that doesn't start until 22 years in the future. If the spanish flu had an impact on WW2, it was by reducing the size of the armies and thereby shortening the war some?

Has he taken home the little whitehouse model that was in the fish tank yet?

Most people don't know Canada fought in the 1899-1902 Second Boer War. That was our first war fought on foreign soil.

War is stupid, I know that.

most people recognize a fake Trump quote when they see it

Problem is, about 99% of the quotes people get riled up about come directly from the horse's mouth via TV or from his Twitter feed.
The amount of gibberish and lies he has spewed is well documented. Latest example, the Veteran's Choice bill....
Repeated claims (over 125 now) that he passed it, when in reality, it was passed under Obama.
When pressed by the media asking why he's lying, he simply takes his ball and runs away. Has happened several times now.

Personally, I don't care who passed it, as it's something to help the veterans. Just don't take the credit for something you didn't do.

and don't get accidentally trolled into a look how clever I am situation

hahaha

most people recognize he's not the brightest crayon in the box too

I hope :ROFLMAO:

Thing is, even though he's a Dog the Bounty Hunter, The Simple Life, type of actor, he's an actor.

We're on the losing end of that equation, with Mister Those Who Can't.

We haven't done better than them, except for being lucky that we're less populated, and more spread out across the country.
While they were ignoring their pandemic prep procedures, we were busy throwing our PPE supplies into the landfill.
When China, halted exports of PPE, which are primarily manufactured in their country, possibly now by slave labour, we sent them tons.

It's astounding to me, and somewhat embarassing, to see someone run Trump down really badly, and then turn around and praise Trudeau.
Don't forget, Trump is still on his first go around, while Trudeau is on his second.

Canada has the same level of urbanization of most western countries, a little over 80%
sure we have a massive land area, but people don't live on most of it

we have done better here because Canadians have a built-in understanding
that society just works better when we follow the rules

I'd give the people more credit than any politician

No, some of us think we're doing better because we think we're better than them.
We'll see what the numbers show when we're out of this at the other end.

Down there, they're in the middle of an election, and they're putting others down to try and raise themselves up, we aren't in an election, and it's not against the U.S., so we should try and do better in the meantime.

N.Z. went one way, and Sweden the other. It'll be interesting to see which method pans out in the end.

N.Z. got to zero, but can't let anyone in from outside, and their tourism industry will be decimated.

Sweden could if there's a herd immunity at some point, but we haven't got there, or enough info. yet.

Both us and the U.S. are somewhere in the middle. We have some people asking to speak to the manager, to make laws to force people to wear masks. But we also have people taking long distance trips across the country, potentially spreading it everywhere. It's a mish-mash. We've also opened up some of the economy, we don't really know yet, which industries have been decimated, but that's only a matter of time. I'm hearing of people who can't afford to live now, foodbanks are having a hard time, it's going to be a rough ride.

Down south it might be worse in that not everyone has healthcare, but at the same time up here, most operations have been cancelled, and the hospitals are now focused on being equipped for the pandemic. That may mean standing around in some parts of the country.

NZ has a few cases and are locking down again. I don't know the cost of locking down again after a reprieve.

From Coronavirus Update (Live): 20,514,016 Cases and 745,687 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer as usual

The USA is 10th in the world ranked by deaths per million population. (Two of the line items above it are city-states, Andorra and San Marino.) But they are on a rate of increase that, if it continues, will overtake Sweden in about 3 weeks (early September), then Italy (3 or 4 days later), then Spain (about a week after that - so late September). We're 25th and likely to stay there. It's pretty likely that the number of deaths in the USA for that country to overtake Sweden are already baked in to the number of people that are already infected. (See further analysis below). But ... Then Sturgis. Then kids go back to school.

The USA had 1504 deaths yesterday. We had 4.

Cases per million population is a much more dubious number, subject to testing vagaries. The USA is 9th and likely to be 6th in a few days.

Analysis: In the US the number of new infections looks like it peaked on 24th July. The previous minima on new infections in early June was reflected in a minima of new deaths in early July. Number of new infections proceeded to triple, peaking on 24th July. Number of new deaths has roughly doubled but has not yet peaked. Going by the time lag of the minima, the deaths peak likely follows the new-infections peak by about a month ... so a couple weeks from now.

Even the guy in charge of Sweden's path regrets it.

No one can go to New Zealand and no one wants to go to Sweden.

NZ has a few new cases and shutting down again. It will be interesting to find the leak. Hopefully with the numbers being small it will be clear. Unfortunately in an earlier case the spreader was less than fully honest.

Is that at all surprising? Not only did they think their wants were more important than the health of the entire country, the blowback would be horrendous as you are publicly exposed as an entitled prick that deserves to be shunned by society. Similar to all the idiot FHRITP guys that get fired on monday for their drunken outburst on the weekend (and that was only perceived harm, in NZ case, that entitled Ahole may actually have caused the death of your family member and you know their name and town).
