Cleaning and detailing

Bike needs a bath, looking for some ideas on cleaners that I may not be familiar with. What do you use for
degreasing, general cleaning, detailing?

I will apologize in advance for the rain that will shortly follow the bikes bath

White bottle / blue label.

Finish with Plexus, or your favourite wax.

I tried to watch that video with an open mind but couldn't stop laughing

How is it that water and soap, a liquid, can't get into places that their cleaning product, also a liquid can?

Try S100 and find out.
For example: the 'webbing' on your brake rotor will NEVER be totally clean, unless you spend 2 hours cleaning each one. Spray S100 on it, and watch it work (it appears to boil dirt off in places you will NEVER reach, then rinses off with water).
Disclosure: I have nothing to gain by recommending S100, I only use it because someone around bikes longer than I told me about it & I go with what's best.

Gary, any issues with it causing problems with rubber or other softer surfaces?

No problems in about 4 - 5 yrs and roughly 5 - 6 bikes. Be sure to rinse completely.
(I buy the large bottle & pour it into a dollar store spray bottle).

After reading about and trying PineSol for carb cleaning (needs overnite soak) I used it to clean a super cruddy engine. Brush on and watch it foam every couple hours x 4 or 5. Brush again the next day and rinse immediately. I don't know about using it for a regular cleaning job but it sure brightens up raw aluminum.

Gary, can you post what S100 contains?

Simple green is bad for aluminum.

When I had a bike I cared about I kerosene and zep.

Gojo hand wipes work really well too.

Zep orange is too strong to be used on a bike, it will dull paint and take the shine off bare metal surfaces.

Its a good degreaser, but be very carefull where you spray it.

I used S100 once, seemed no better than any other degreaser. I use Simple Green now.

Doesn't list any ingredients on the jug. Not good for the eyes though.

How much do these places sell the regular size bottles of s100, I have used simple green before but not on painted surfaces only to clean grease and ****.

Next time i go to royal ill be looking for some.

It's about $12 - $13 last time I checked.

For the bugs : Autoglym bug / tar remover
Degreasing : Simple green
Cleaning: Chemical guys Citrus wash and gloss (I bought this for my car so I use this for the bike)
Detailing: Pledge / Natty's Red wax (I bought this for the car too)

I just use dishwashing detergent and water, the S100 sounds interesting though.

WD-40 works wonders for grease and road grime removal. Check out this video series:

If you use the Simple Green available from places like Canadian Tire, then it will attack bare aluminum. There is a special aviation-quality Simple Green that is aluminum safe. It's available from Aircraft Spruce in Hamilton.

I picked up some S100 at Royal Dist. this weekend and gave it a try. Wow, what an amazing product. I had been on a 1500 KM Pennsylvania trip the previous weekend and had lots of chain fling, road grime, and bugs covering the bike. I sprayed it on, gave it a bit of rubbing with a soft cloth on the front fairing to work the bugs a bit and hosed it off. I couldn't believe how bright the sprocket looks after the cleaning. I didn't rinse it off my driveway very well and it left some marks but I assume today's rain will take care of that. If not, I'm going to have to take it to the coin wash next time.
