Are you ****ing crazy? Hell No!

I've always wanted to visit that place. Maybe after I have kids. Anybody ever ridden around there?

Found a ride report but apparently this is a hoax:

Kid of Speed is not a hoax. She's moved onto other things since then (that site has been around since at least 2004).

Newer website (still pretty old)

Actually that ride was a hoax. She admitted to it and called it an 'imagined' ride around the area. She was forced to admit it because IIRC authorities said that she hadn't been there, and that no one would have been able to obtain permission to do it at the time.

There are actual tours being organized in Ukraine to go to Chernobyl area (obviously not inside the sarcophagus). I can hook you up with contact info as I just saw an ad for it on one of the local (Ukrainian) groups organizing the tour.

Been planning to do one of these tours for a while now since I'm in nuclear industry myself.
Was in Romania this summer at Cernavoda nuke plant for 3 week so my team and I were looking into driving up there.

What do you expect out of such a ride? I am just curious why would you pick this place? ... out of all the wonderful places around the world.

My guess is that people expect to see the world from 'Walking Dead' series or something, but in reality it's more like the world from that new 'Revolution' series - everything got overgrown with weeds and trees (which is great IMHO).

There are numerous sources that say the contrary

Sent from my tablet using my paws

What exactly would the hoax be?
The exclusion zone exists, you can go there (though unless you're with an organized tour there's a lot of paperwork involved). In 2005 I was planning a documentary about the zone and I tracked her down. I've spoken with her via email numerous times, and I have 3 of the books she's published. So I don't know what you're on about.

She didn't go there, before writing her story. At the time you couldn't go there, in the manner that she described. She faked it and admitted to it.

I met the Ukrainian president at the time of Chernobyl who gave a talk on the disaster a few years ago. We saw photos not available to the western media that were pretty amazing. Personally, I'd rather go to a war zone and have the chance at being shot at by someone I can see rather than riding along and kicking up some dust and inhaling something that will irradiate my lungs with something I can't see. I've worked with isotopes before and I wasn't really keen on that side of my work.

So how'd she get the photo's? Just taken them from random places in Eastern Europe and waited till there were no people in the frame(s)?

You should post a link to back up your claim.

Just curiousity.
It would be interesting to see how nature reclaims its land. They say in 100yrs there would be no sign of human activity. Except the radiation.

Animals and plants seem to strive very successfully there. It would be interesting to see what a place like that would be like if there were no human interference. Plus, ghost towns intrigue me :)

More like history channel's "World after Humans" :D
This is different than most ghost towns. Everything was left there at that exact moment. Its like a freeze in the moment of time and everyone stopped what they were doing.

The date she stated her ride, there were no motorcycles allowed there. When she posted her site, the authorities were furious, asking who allowed the motorcycle in that zone. Upon investigation, it was all a hoax.

I guess I will not be able to ride there. Authorities do not allow un-enclosed vehicles. I'll stick with the trip one day

Personally I have a thing for destroyed/post-apocalypse/nature reclaiming/abandoned/ghost town/etc scenery. It's very calming and relaxing to me. I want to, hopefully, set up a trip sometime where I just travel through a bunch of ghost towns in Canada and the US (maybe including more of NA if time permits.) But that won't be for a few years...

I also wanna visit Centralia next time I'm in Pennsylvania.
