Cheapskates Corner

Was eating small cheap steaks to bring my red blood cell count up after my brush with sepsis
I'd cut a 1 KG cheap cut steak into smaller feeds and freeze them but it's still expensive protein.
The dog was happy.

Tried to find a cheap but good quality mince ( hamburger ) but not so cheap either tho easier to portion and cook.

Found this pork and beef mix for $5.50 for a pound all in - quite inexpensive and after fiddling to get seasoning and cooking correct allows for cheap protein meals. Can mix up with the small cans of baked beans. 150 gm and get solid protein fix of 20gm for $2. Also with Kraft dinner and a bunless burger. Feel much better with low carb ...high protein.

Tried canned corn beef but messy and too much fat even for me
Partner stiil buying meat substitutes but expensive and uneven taste.
The pork/beef mix browns up and tastes okay tho not as good as the steak...but hey....cheap and tasty

Yep, we do that too.

Although this probably doesn't qualify for a cheapskate's corner post, we love lamb burgers, but it's literally twice as expensive as pork, so we end up making patties out of a ground lamb and ground pork mix.

Pads the burgers out with cheaper meat that doesn't take away from the lamb flavour.

Food, gas, riding gear, tools, liquor and women have never been part my cheapskate mandate.

Man's gotta live.

My bad.

I thought this was the cheapskate's corner.

Not the "F-n Food Ballers in this thread" thread... 🤷‍♂️

On my way to the Horological thread to proclaim how I don't wear watches because every device I own has a clock on it already.

That's a cheapskate item for me. I have a lot of watches (which I don't wear). They all say Timex.

I figure a watch is for telling time. If I can buy one for lunch money that will run perfectly for decades and keep time more accurately than a $20k Rolex, that's value for money.

Wife hasn’t eaten meat for years so it’s just easy for me to cook at home without it which saves a huge amount of cash.

We do have the occasional bit of fish/shellfish together though and I have a weakness for bacon and chicken which sneak their way in occasionally for my solo meals. I'm fussy with my bacon though and it’s hard to find decent lean back bacon (that isn’t covered in a dusting of what seems to be rubble) instead of all this streaky stuff. The streaky stuff is good when it's cooked crispy but my arteries always cry for help after.

Resetting my wrist watch for daylight savings time is like mining for crypto.

We buy legs of lamb when they're on sale and cut off the meat and grind it. A bit left on the bone becomes a stew.

We mix the lamb 50/50 with beef to make kofta burgers, containing onion, tomatoes and spices. BBQ on fake swords.

Medium beef gives more flavour and the fat issue is a big scam by the food and sugar industry.

I bought some RFID credit card sleeves and they seem to work as the card wouldn't tap when it was enclosed. Three for about $10 at CAA or about a buck each on Amazon.

Then when picking up some beer I noticed free gift card envelopes at the counter. I took one and applied aluminum foil tape to both sides and when inside the card wouldn't tap. It has to be aluminum foil tape as regular duct tape won't work.

You can also use the tape to make a tin foil helmet but it really sticks to your hair.

Thought the days of cheap pub food were over.
Lunch with buddy at P J Irish Pub . What a deal!!
$10 all in any weekday - medium rare, chips the way I like, generous gravy and nice salad. No tipping

Oh! Just thought of something else.

Canadian Tire has bulbs and fuses that cost about 3x what they should. Carquest sells that stuff MUCH cheaper, sometimes it is the exact same SKU. Should be helpful to some people considering the staggering number of people I've noticed lately driving around with bulbs out
