Chain and Sprockets Change

Were the cushion drive rubbers and wheel bearings in good shape when it was apart. <- Might be worth asking when you go back.
... and ask if he used a torque wrench and put locktite on the sprocket bolts, otherwise I'd be checking them after a while.

OK. Bringing out the pitchforks never really seems to do much or go well locally (well.... there was that one shady shop that got slammed and deserved it, can't remember their name though. Long gone). However - if anybody reading this does this professionally - you need to take **** like this seriously. Cotter pins, u-lock nuts, castle nuts, drive chain rivets. That stuff is there for a reason. Do not let this back on to the road - get it dealt with.
 
Could be worse I seen one with both rubber o-rings installed on the same side once.
 
I honestly was really happy to find a shop just walking distance from where I live. I spend a lot of time working so I personally don't have time to work on my bike. Work 7days a week from March to November and I don't mind support the industry.

Oh well.
 
Give them a chance to set it right, it's an easy fix (y) if you have the parts.
Sad they don't put 2 masters in with a new chain. 1 rivet 1 clip
 
Sadly, I was on the phone with him and he told me that's normal and it's perfectly safe. He told me to bring the new master link and not the pin type but a clip-on style. I refused and he said he'll have the part next week. I'm afraid he might do more harm than good. I might just go somewhere else or do it myself.
 
Fortunately if the hub bearing remains good the chain will never likely see much side load.

Maybe showing him the picture or seeing it in person will change his mind. I just don't understand how anyone could think that is acceptable.

Not sure if it works for your bike for your next chain, but I recently put on an EK screw type chain and it was pretty easy to install.
 
Yeah I'm a big fan of EK screw type master links... the problem is actually getting your hands on them can be difficult

DID 525 VX PRO-Street Connecting Link was what I was looking at. Is it still not preferred for street bikes?
 
You have an RK chain pictured, you really should be looking for an RK master link
 
If you are in the northwest vicinity of the GTA and can get the bike and a new rivet-link that is the correct one for that chain to my place, I'll install it for you. I have the correct tool for this job. I will not lend it out ... too many people abuse it ... such as whoever installed the master link that you have now.

Do not use a master link for a different brand or model of chain. You have an RK 525 KRW chain, you need an RK 525 master link. The dimensions of the pins have to match up correctly to the inside holes in the adjacent links, and the best way to ensure that is to match the manufacturer and chain style.

It's absurd to think that the shop thinks your current master link is fine as it is. That the two pins are so obviously different in how they are flared - let alone how one of them is cracked! - is a blatant tipoff that the link was not installed correctly.
 
Where did you get this chain? I'm not getting any results for RK 525 KRW
 
These are all Honda Genuine parts. A gift from my family members not knowing anything about aftermarket parts and so on. I wanted to install 520 chain and sprockets but these were given so I thought I'll just use them up.

I was going to replace the whole chain instead of just the link but I guess I'm wasting a good chain.

@Brian P Thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on it if I can find the RK link from someone. I'm in Richmond Hill btw.

You would think that paying professionals to do the job is the easiest way to get this done. I guess I need to find a new shop now.
 
In 40 years of riding I have never had a clip link fail, and I ride the **** out of my stuff. I always safety wire, mostly habit as in my poorer days I reused clips when I re&re chains for cleaning.

I prefer them as the make chain replacement simple, you can change a chain with pliers and a screw driver.

Ahhh ok, that makes sense now. In which case the master link that is 100% guaranteed to work is Honda part #40545-MJE-D02
