Cdn Credit card to pay for US fuel that requires ZIP code.

Thank you for this tip. Going to see Gilligan next week and it will be useful. I had to prepay everytime, when I last went down.

I just did a 10 day trip to Colorado and Sturgis SD.
BP asked for your zip code every time.
Shell was hit and miss.
So I avoided them.
Cum & Go is the **** if you are traveling west.
They have everything and no zip code bs.
thanks for the info op....i'll try to remember this

When I was traveling west in the US this past july I didn't have any problem with this until the first station inside of washington(first shell station I saw since I left Canada). Took me 30min to fill up, ****** me off. I have heard of this trip before but couldn't remember it. Hopefully I remember for next year.

Thanks for this tip. Glad I saw your thread before heading down south - was gone for 2 weeks and used it daily. Needless to say, it saved a lot of time.

I just pay with cash... Walk in, drop 20 down; go fill up and walk back in to receive my change.

That's two trips to the counter. Sometimes there is a long line there.

This is terrific. Was basically called a bigot in Bucksnort, TN because I did not know about the whole zipcode thing and asked for help.

Would have been useful when I drove from BC to Ontario taking the long route down through Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas... etc etc. Filled up twice a day, and 95% of them I would say all wanted a zip code. I think it was Oregon where they would not even let you pump your own gas... unless it was just a local thing as he looked very confused that I was getting out to fill up the car myself.

which states require a zip code? I've been to PA and NY recently and my MBNA mc never had me held up with entering a zip code.

maybe because it's not a Canadian based creditor? Bank of America owns MBNA, if I'm not mistaken.

Oregon and New Jersey it is apparently illegal to pump your own gas.

I don't own a credit card though.
I guess that would explain it.

Just came back recently from a long trip in the cage...down to Atlanta, over to Alabama for a bike school course and then back to Barrie. Only came across 2 gas pumps that asked for zip code but my postal numbers worked both times!

Good to know. Had that problem on two trips into the US this summer.
