Car key cutting

HD can’t cut a spare for the car as it isn’t the usual rippled edge type key.

It doesn’t have a chip but there is a length wise flute with various notches down one inside edge.

Any suggestions

That’s it. I don’t need the fob. I like to carry a spare in my wallet in case I lock the regular one in the car

There is a great locksmith in Hamilton.
He is a rider too. Locksmith for 40 years.

I called a local guy and I don't know if he over-envisioned my needs but $120 seemed high. My key doesn't have any electronic security features. It just can't be cut on a common rotary grinder with a follower, or a file if you're good.

Don't you have a mill? Attach a follower needle to the column and manually trace it. Should be a fun project. If you want to speed things up, do some research, many vehicles only have a few pins in door cylinders and the rest of the key doesn't matter.

I've been thinking of that. I don't know for sure but I may not need to do both sides other than the main groove. I'll need to check bit sizes and consider what else I could do with the time. My life is a combination of rabbit holes and whack-a mole.

Sometime one gets tired of proving themselves capable of all things.

I just finished making a bread board for cutting a baguette at the right angle and thickness for bruschetta. Now I'm contemplating a specific knife to be made for the job.

I swear I had a similar thread going in the last two years but can't find it. "About Town Lock & Key" seemed pretty competent (and very reasonably priced!). I got referred there by a different locksmith that didn't have the necessary blanks

Shouldn't be an issue for any competent modern locksmith. The keyword you are looking for is "laser cut key"
