this is very true indeed!!

horsepucky...43 years riding and nothing like a crash on the road beyond a few fall downs in a blizzard.....now off road a different story :D

It is NOT inevitable but there is also bad luck.

But OP that's a hell of a crash to get out of with a just broken collar bone, flipping the bike AND hitting a tree......luck works two ways ...ride safe.

What kind of gear were you wearing? How did it hold up?

good question.

Wow, I don't know if you're brave or crazy? Probably a little of both but aren't we all. Glad to hear you're okay and you're back riding. Be safe.

You a soldier, also high sided this summer broke my left arm and rode my bike back to a buddies house an hour away, then he brought me to the hospital.

Wow - broken arm and you rode....good nic :D
I rode my trialer out of the bush with what turned out to be a crack in one of the bone anchors below my knee.....damn that was painful jumping logs with one leg on the pegs. I guess adrenalin does it.
Little crack still hurts from time to time.....closest to a broken bone I've had......yet.
They missed it in the first xray so limped around for a couple weeks and went back - THEN they found it. No cast so that was an okay part.

Yeah for sure it was adrenaline lol I was worried more about the bike then myself. Broken bones suck! There are 2 types of riders, one that falls, and one that is waiting to fall, your not a rider till you drop once lol.

ouch that sucks. I just fractured my left hand. Its bandaged/casted up and i cant get my hand over the bars or I'd still be riding right now...

I was out on the ride with op when she crashed. She messed up her bike big time. Could tell it was written off without looking too hard. She was very lucky that she took out the smallest tree in the group and it slowed her down before she hit the big ones.Ive seen people get get more severely injured going much slower.Shes got major horse shoes.I think she did right by going through insurance. She has no intention of changing companies anyways having been there since her 365. I wont say how many years. I want to keep breathing and dont need bruises.Im very proud of her. She got right on my bike after the crash without hesitation to go to the hospital and was back out riding as soon as she could manage. Tough girl. <[OOO*

Glad Your Ok Op........Props to you for jumping back on the bike so soon
many thanks..I'm doing well now.. my collar bone only hurts every now and again.. mostly on crappy damp days.. :)

You're basically stuck with that company now. Anyone else is going to give you insane rates for having an at fault accident. Probably at least double. Personally, I would suck up the cost of the bike. Actually, I have twice now simply absorbed the cost of the damages that were high enough that insurance would have written off the bike (not that it takes much, bike is good as new now).

Or at least anyone I talked to in my area that had an at fault when I only had one car was paying 2-3x what I was because of their accident. Also couldn't change companies because their new quotes were even higher.

Glad to hear you're out riding still, though, and hope you have a great, safe, time with the new bike.

Actually I am ok with being stuck with this insurance company..I have no plans to move.. they are amazing..
It's nice to be out riding.. I will be riding for as long as I can before the white crap arrives.. many thanks!! :)

What kind of gear were you wearing? How did it hold up?

The gear I was wearing at the time held up amazing.. I had a Scorpion EXO 400 helmet..which just took some scrapes to the visor, my rocket gloves.. they held up perfect..Speed and Strength textile jacket..worked well..just some grass stains..and the shoulder protector had a good hit from the tree i plowed down.. my boots on the other hand didn't hold up so great.. they wrecked pretty good.. they were a sport bike boot..like similar to a street burner.. I was only wearing jeans.. but they didn't take any damage..I was surprised..because I skidding on the road..and then hit the ditch real hard.. going to replace all my gear though. thanks to the insurance! :)

glad your are ok.. high siding sucks!! lol as for me.. after i came to a stop i crawled up the hill trying to catch my breath..and realized my bike was upside down wheels pointed skyward.. I think I was more upset to see my bike like that then realized the pain in my shoulder.. I was in shock i believe.. my friends came back to me.. and I hopped on the back on my best friends bike(sport bike) and rode to the hospital..got diagnosed with the broken collar bone.. and rode with my friend back home on his sport bike.. which was a good few hours back home..

yeah..actually this broken collar bone was the first bone I have ever broken as well.. they hurt!! lol yeah..adrenalin sure does it all right.. I rode back from the Muskoka Hospital home which is a few hours away.. on the back on my best friends bike!! hardcore!! LOL :p
I just had to wear a cloth brace for a bit under my shirt.. no biggie..just to hold the bone in place.. I'm doing well now..no brace..but still hurts from time to time..just to remind me of that awful day.. but i move forward..and look to the future of more amazing times on my bike! :)

Thanks.

It's not really that painful for me, since it's only a fracture and I have a high pain tolerance.

The problem is the cast and fracture limiting my mobility by a lot... I'm left handed so I can't do ANYTHING now.

Hope the pain stops for you soon.

An impressive recovery indeed. Good to see you weren't scared off by the experience and very impressed you got back out on 2 so quickly.

My day has not yet come, save for a minor drop or two; definitely had a few major close calls, but I hope if I ever have an accident like yours that I'm as quick and able to recover.

Subbed your channel; ride safe and keep on doing what you love!
