I don’t usually go point by point… but this post does require some serious corrections.
Subsidized mail delivery for all Canadain to use.
No. CPC is a self-sustaining commercial Crown, it is required and expected to pay their own way.
As a public service we deliver to ever address in the country. No big deal if you live in the city but it matters if you live out in the middle of nowhere.
Not 100% true. CPC gets mail close to most Canadians, and directly to a lot. I have houses in 2 Ontario cities, one supermailbox is 50m, the other is 1.3km.
Amazon delivers directly to more addresses than CPC today.
You can opt out of getting "junk mail" no problem
Volume of mail is reflected in the Canada Post restructuring plans. Positions are being elimanated, part timers hours are being cut, community mailbox are being implementated more. lower wages for new employees.
There are no appeasement for the Unions or the workers.
The unions is the workforce with control over productivity. If they’re less productive today than 10 years ago, and only 50% as productive as their competition … what concessions are the workforce due?
The managements has full support of the governmnet and Canada Post workers have very little support from the public. Have no idea about the baby boomers
If Canada Post goes private, you would probably would not see any more money in your pocket but would have to pay even more for delivery. Right now it's a $1.45 for letter mail to be delivered nationally in about 4 business day.
$1.45 is the price of a stamp, then add another $0.50 in taxpayer money to each letter. So it really cost the taxpayer about $2.
About 4 biz days (average 7 days) to cross country urban destinations, remote deliveries up to 14 days.
Amazon is 2 days and 5 days.
Why is Purolator Profitable While Canada Post is Not?
Unlike its parent company, Purolator is not bound by the "universal service obligation" to deliver mail to every single Canadian household five days a week. Instead, Purolator operates on a purely commercial business model. It can adjust prices dynamically, target high-volume business routes, and scale its independent courier fleet according to market demand without heavy regulatory constraints.
Nope again. Purolator is nearly twice as productive as CPC. If CPC workforce was as productive, they would be profitable.
You have to understand the unions have stifled productivity advancement for decades at every possible corner. Automation, route planning, preservation of home deliveries… this systemic pressure has collapsed CPC competitiveness.
