Buying used from a dealer

Hey,

I'm in the process-ish (it's paid for already) of buying a bike from a local dealer, went there because a close friend knows the owner personally and they gave me about $1000OTD off the bike.
I saw the bike once before buying it, safetied, and had pictures.
Looking at the pictures it looked off to me, lowered, they didn't say anything initially and I went to pick the bike up yesterday and asked.
They said "oh yea when the mechanic safetied it they mentioned it was lowered" it was done last Thursday, they didn't say anything.
Red flag? Should I be more worried?
They are going to make it right and bring it to factory ride height for no cost to me as long as its not over a few hundred.

Thoughts ? I'm trying not to be a dixk about it because a friend of a friend and I work in automotive not the same but close, sometimes things get missed but should they have disclosed it once they knew?

What bike is it?

Not a big deal, people lower them all the time. Depending on the bike, just rear shock links, and lower front forks in the triple clamps. Sometimes it means getting a new side stand

They didn't get a new side stand, because when I mentioned it he also said make sure its on flat ground, the stand isn't right for the height.

This is my 2nd bike just seems odd they wouldn't disclose it, automotive we need to disclose everything or get bad reviews, people trying to return cars, threaten OMVIC over little stuff like paint chips

They seem to be resolving it and making it right, its a pretty easy fix, I wouldn't worry about it. I've gone to see a bike, and found it low, brought it up, and only then did the dealer realize. Looking on eBay, side stands for the bike are $50 and under, so also not a major expense if it needs to be swapped.

Odd bike to lower, may have just been a vertically challenged previous owner. In the ADV world, so many have been lowered, from links to forks, it's no biggie

I wouldn’t worry about it probably just an oversight.

I went to see a CB500X last year that was lowered. But that was lowered at the front, rear, and had a modified side stand. Pricing it out would’ve cost me $800-1000 to bring back to stock height.

Thanks guy,
I know I've seen, heard of lowering bikes but never looked Into it much, they are making it right. Wasn't sure if it was a big undertaking or bike altering to do so.

I'll wait to hear from them and hopefully it's something easy and they cover it or a portion atleast.

Pricing it out with labour? Stand and rear linkage plates are $100<, easy swap. Forks were probably dropped in the triples, vs all new springs

Guy told me he replaced the springs up front, but I didn't look further into it. Once I saw the side stand was different and lower that's another item.

No matter now as he sold it before I got home from his place as there was someone else waiting down the street!

A lowered bike is not a red flag, but it is something that should be disclosed when they listed the bike for sale. It's a pretty big difference from stock and potentially affects the handling of the motorcycle.

I'm not a fan of lowered bikes and if I see one, I wouldn't buy it. But that's just my personal preference. People lower their bikes all the time for the security of being able to reach the ground. Just not for me.

I'd buy a lowered bike that has been restored to factory height if they use all the proper components. That's not a deal-breaker.

Which dealer was it? If it's used their mechanic would have gone over it before accepting it as a trade so they definitely knew about. And if they didn't look it over before taking it in, then that just means they don't care too much about mechanical fitness and are mostly looking to sell the bike on how good it "looks". Make sure you look it over yourself to see if they "missed" anything else.

Also they shouldn't be the ones dictating to you how much money they're willing to put in to make it right.

Depends on how the lowered it, just a rear link swap and the shock will ramp up fast and not be plush as normal. Lowered and internals done then good but if they just put a stock link on then the internals are too light. Lowered usually means lighter rider as well and that is a revalve and spring swaps front and back. Don't judge just on the height.

The dealer should bring it back to stock for free.
They missed the lower kit? What else did they miss?
My 2 cent. Buying used from a dealer doesn't mean the bike is in good condition

have you checked out kijiji

The Tracer GT I purchased a few months ago was lowered and this was disclosed before the purchase, as were other modifications. I got all the OEM parts so I can do what I want going forward. Still has OEM side stand and I got he OEM links so I can convert it back to regular height if I want to, no big deal. If you don't have the OEM links just buy them and then just sell the lowering ones to someone else.

The mechanic doing the safety did notice it not the guy who took it on trade/sold me the bike, I did check kijiji and have found a few but friend of a friend owns the dealer and they had a favor to use so they discounted it well.

They don't have factory parts but the poor translation from the mechanic to sales to me sounds like lowering links, he said the mounting bracket was moved, sounds close enough to links to me. I'll find out more when I talk to him next though
