Buy this year, or next year?

So I'm turning 25 next year, on top of holding my M2 for a year. What I've found out is the following:

Insurance is 2500~ this year.
Next year it is 1300~.

My investment account (ie. stocks) is @ 10% gain right now and will likely, due to it being Activision Blizzard and Diablo 3, StarCrarft 2 xpac, WoW xpac, Call of Duty MW3 all coming out next year, rise next year.

All logic is screaming "wait 'till next year to get a bike" because I will save almost 50% on insurance and likely hit at least 20% gain from stocks but....

I WANT TO RIDE!!!!! =( Plus I've only clocked 16~ hours from RTI. I'm afraid next year I'll get on a bike and just drop it -_-

Ask yourself if that extra $1300 is worth it or not. If it is, then what are you waiting for?

I dunno man =(

I'm normally very calm and calculating individual, but ever since I got my M2 all I think about is riding. My friends and gf are asking me to stfu about it =(

Packed away my gear yesterday, made me kinda sad because the season just started. Why the hell is insurance so high first year anyway? Does everyone go on 600CC sports and die on their first year? -_-

Sounds like you are very excited to start riding! If I was in your situation I'd say that screw what others think because your going to ride because you want to. It would be torture to go through the whole season with all the good weather and not be riding with all that excitement you got.

As for the insurance, yeah it is pretty high the first year. It's just how it is, because of the high risk of screwing up in the first year of riding. Not everyone dies in their first year on a 600. Because they usually get something smaller like a 250 or a 500.

What bike is that based on? If it's a 600rr lower your expectations & get a smaller bike that's cheaper to insure and ride this year. Sell the smaller bike in the spring and get the one you want.

No they don't. I survived. It's all about knowing what the bike can do and being mature and responsible.

For sure start riding if you can. :)

Just remember your first bike isn't your only bike. You can always upgrade down the road!

If you can afford to do it, then do it. Are your rates based on a 600cc? If so, then consider something smaller for your first year or two. If you're that stoked about riding, then make the compromise.

Damn 10% return...I'm definitely missing out..Id save the money to make a nice return... But then again I got a 600ss already

I WANT TO RID-

Hopefullly QE2 ending doesn't kill ur account

I'd agree with everyone who says to buy a smaller bike just to warm up, knowing full well next year you're going to get the bike you want... maybe a cb125 or 250, or an older model 400 from honda or something... insurance will be cheaper, you'll be riding, and someone in your position next year will likely buy your bike in a snap in spring!

Similar situation. I did my m2 in October of last year and I don't turn 25 till September of this year. I was debating whether or not I should wait till 2012 to start riding. The difference in insurance is $2100 vs. $780. Well... I decided that you can always work hard and earn more money, but you can't take make up for lost time! So here I am riding and loving every second of it.

Not to mention if the world ends in 2012 you'd miss your opportunity altogether (I'm kidding of course).

Buy now, prices will only get better this year. You'll never be able to to replace lost time.

I shopped around using a ninja 250 as a benchmark. My other friends that were gonna ride are having the same problem where insurance is stupid high first year, regardless of the bike, then drops. Other problem is I also have school coming up on September, I'd have more breathing room if I were to buy the bike during November to April, where bikes are apparently cheaper. Siiiigh. I was just out jogging and all I saw were motorcycles T__T. This sucks.

They probably want you to either stfu and do it, or stfu and don't. States of indecision can be a mother****er to be around, so don't subject them to it. Get it financed if you don't have the cash up front and think your ROI is greater than your interest rate.

Get an SV650 and our insurance will be cheap. Call Statefarm or Jevco brokers. Don't wait, ride. You only live once.
