We lost one of the greats today. Saw him about 7 years ago at The Meridian Centre. He seemed to be a very humble guy.People forget how influential he was.
Apparently Phil Spector was his idol, he was about as crazy as crazy gets. You can definitely hear his “wall of sound” influence on Brian Wilson’s music. A lot of the same studio musicians, known as The Wrecking Crew, played on both their work. By the mid 60’s The Beach Boys were just providing vocals and Brian was writing/ producing. The Wrecking Crew were the “unsung” heroes of Pet Sounds, pardon the pun.RIP Brian , beyond the fans not many realized he was a musical genius . And a bit crazy which works well with musical genius.

There’s a pretty good Phil Spector documentary also. One reviewer called it “The rare psycho profile that you can dance to”Rip. The wrecking crew doc is really good.
I have a friend that dated Gordon Lightfoot’s daughter. She lived in a little subdivision house in Stouville, she was very private and low key about her father. My buddy told me one summer evenihg he came over for a bbq and after dinner they sat out on the back porch and Gord was strumming a guitar singing a few songs. My buddy said the neighbors were looking out their windows and over the fence thinking hey, this guy is pretty good, I wonder if he does bar mitzfasSomehow my wife had gotten to know Toni Tenille of the Captain and Tenille band ( muskrat love , love will keep us together ) , Toni and the husband Daryl ( The Captain) had met when they both played keyboard and she sang backup in the Beach Boys , she was the only female Beach Boy . They played keyboards for a number of years as the Boys had gotten a bit messed up and could sing but not manage to play instruments lol. She told us a great story one night about being at Gordon Lighfoots house in Rosedale after a CNE show and Gord was feeding raccoons hundreds of dollars of catering on the back porch . We didn’t see them much once was sold our US house , but nice people

Yeah, I forgot about that connection. I think it was Dennis Wilson that was friends with him. The other band members thought he was “a little off” and didn’t want anything to do with him. There’s an old clip on YouTube of The Beach Boys performing a song written by Charles Manson and Dennis Wilson on The Mike Douglas Show circa1968-69.Sorry, I think Charles Manson has him beat.
Crazy to me how young he was writing songs like god only knows in his young 20's. Same with Stevie Nicks writing some of her greatest hits in late teens/early 20's.... Back when there were no cell phones and you actually had to be creative to pass your time I guess instead of staring at a screen.
